His Sixth Birthday Party….but he’s still 4

A gloomy Sunday out there today. It feels damp and it is cloudy. A good day for some English Breakfast Tea!

Yesterday was the birthday party for Corbin who is now 6. Although he just told his mom he’s only 4, so I guess it’s never too early to lie about your age.

The party was at Memorial Park which is huge and has everything a kid could want. Not too hot, not too windy. Charli and Papa preferred to sit in the shade and play games and eat those no bake cookies. The pinata was the hit of the party with kids going in for the candy like a swarm of bees.

It was all of the cousins and his classmates. The little blonde girl is his “friend”. She is also very bossy and over dramatic. As in she had a blister on her heel from the monkey bars. Yeah, puzzle that one out! They ran and played and ate everything in sight and we ducked out with Charli and went home to play games and watch television and just sit!

All in all it was a really good day and everyone had fun. Today Charli and I are doing nothing. I’ve written my tea cards and stamped those and many games have been played and music videos watched.

I hope you had a good week-end and are doing some self-care and recharging for Monday!

A LESSON IN LOVE AND SOME TEA!

Good Saturday morning! Technically not morning but close enough. I’m going to talk about tea in a second. First I want to talk about these pictures.

We had our last class in the Monarch Garden yesterday afternoon. We released our Monarch, cleaned up the messes and by then it was time for school to be out. Our kids go from 9:10 to 4:00 p.m. The Fall Fundraiser and Pumpkin and Plant Sale began at 4:30 so I had just enough time to grab Corbin, give him a snack, find S.J. and S.J.’s mom and head to the ticket table.

After my shift the boys got Spiders painted on their faces and then proceeded to be boys and run for hours. They hit a bump in the road and Corbin fell. S.J. was there before me and Tommy was taking pictures. S.J. helped Corbin up, where they both laughed and then automatically hugged.

You see that? Our natural response is love. For anyone. Where do we lose that? Who told us to stop? As for me I am proud of my boys for not losing that sense of love and friendship. Our kids learn by example. What kind of example are you? Think about that.

First cool day deserves a little extra. Bigelow This is the Bigelow Salted Caramel Tea I sent in the mail last week. On its own it’s naturally sweet and yummy but it got sinful with a teaspoon of caramel sauce. Later it went to a new level entirely when instead of the caramel I used Dulce de Leche. Nirvana in my mouth, Y’all!!

It has been a busy week and it’s not over. This morning I made the Chocolate Peanut Butter No Bake Cookies for Corbin’s birthday party in 2 hours. Then made a casserole to heat up for later. Presents are wrapped, except for the giant plush tiger from Tommy’s Aunt Gayle.  Now to relax for a bit and get ready for a lot of 6 year olds high on sugar at the park.

Have a good Saturday and may the football Gods shine on your team!

My New Normal Turns Out To Be My Old Normal!

I am so sorry tea, but that Southern Pecan coffee is insanely delicious and I needed a major jolt this morning.

Today is the final day of classes on the Migration and Life Cycle of the Monarch Butterfly as well as the Fall Festival at school. We had the fourth graders yesterday and they were fun. Those questions though. How long does it live ( 4-6 weeks) How do you know if it’s a boy or girl? (Spots) Does it poop? At that one my little friend by the pencil popped out a nugget and of course all the boys wanted to touch the poo. The only thing left in the hatchery is a chrysalis and a new butterfly and 2 caterpillars. One Monarch and one Swallowtail. They will all be released today.

The kids wrote about the life cycle and then made terrariums. Tommy showed up right before school let out and we planted some herbs and stuff in the salad garden. Each grade has a raised patch to tend. They graph the progress and learn a lot of lessons in the garden.

So it turns out my ‘new’ normal, is really my old profession. Teaching. But this time on a volunteer basis. I’m loving it. Kids are in my comfort zone and I get to see my boy at school. Yesterday while waiting on pick up he was snuggled up with some blonde floozy until PaPa saw him. Then he proceeded to tell all his friends that I was making him a Jurassic World cake for Saturday. I did not know this.

On a weird note…I received a friend request on IG from a real live Saudi Prince! Verified. I told him I don’t talk to men on the internet so he suggested Hangouts so we could plan our future life together. Is it bad that I thought about it for like 5 seconds? Then I blocked him.

Have a great Friday and look for the last of the Monarchs headed south!

WHERE IN THE HECK DID SEPTEMBER GO?

tea

Good Sunny Thursday morning! Don’t let that sun fool you. It’s 56 degrees and that is winter weather in my book. The sun finally came out yesterday and I was able to do a few miles before the wind was too much for me.

Today I have a nice selection of books on tea to read while you sip. It’s my favorite activity.

An update on the donations of toiletries. A few of surrounding hotels heard and they wanted in. I will be thanking them personally. When they said a case I was thinking like a wine case. No. More like half of a coffin.

The rest of this week will be full. In a bit I will be leaving for the last of the Monarch classes for the fifth grade. Tomorrow is Fall Festival and we will all be there. Saturday is Corbin’s birthday party so by Sunday we will be partied out.

Have a great Thursday!

THE LAST DAYS OF SUMMER

Good Morning! We had a great day yesterday! Popped in at the library for 30 more books I don’t need. Then off to the trails. I feel so blessed and peaceful here. And boy did we get a work out in!

At about the 4 mile mark I turned to Tommy and said,” Hey, I’m sweating! Like under my arms!” Him: ” Yeah, that’s normal for people.”   Me: “But I never sweat!” It wasn’t like we could just quit. We had to get back to the car. Which we had parked at Louie’s on the Lake. It’s the same place where a guy brought a gun in a few months ago and started shooting folks. Only this is Oklahoma and they shoot back so the only death was the shooters.  A really good restaurant that you shouldn’t park near to get on the trail. Needless to say the smells were amazing and The Sports Franchise guys were on the patio so Tommy wasn’t having the apple and water I brought.

I did find a chrysalis and a boat we both agreed may work. I actually went to the market and did a load of laundry while Tommy made chili. That heartburn isn’t going away. I’m on my third cup of peppermint tea.

And then…..I woke up this morning and it is 54 degrees. And drizzly. And my body is in shock. I wish I had known it was going to be winter now. I have another Monarch class to do tomorrow. Outside. This sucks. My entire body is offended.

On a Thank You note….Corbin’s school is collecting toiletries for children who need them. I sent the list to Tommy this morning and the lovely manager of Hyatt is giving us an entire case. So yeah Hyatt! I mean who has more toiletries than hotels?

How is your week progressing? Anyone still flooded or are you drying out? Did everyone get registered to vote?  Enjoy your day and be kind.

GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY! BUT BRING TEA!

Good Morning. Bright and sunny here this morning. Sipping on some Peppermint Tea from Tazo and planning the day.

Yesterday we headed over to Lake Hefner, which is just down the street to see if the water had receded any from the rains. Some spots were better than others but we saw so many cranes and swans and a blue heron along with toddler ducks.

In the one picture I have no idea why someone would go to the park every day and feed these freaking poop machines! We were all taping it. I can’t wait to go back today. And we are. There are so many miles of trails and we are trying to map out one that I feel safe going alone on. The fact that a huge portion of the trails by the lake are also the places where all the lovely outdoor restaurants are so we’ll see which trail we take.

I wanted to tell you that I started the Teabag in a card project. I received a ton of tea themed stickers so I made my own cards and inside each one I stuck a tea bag. This week’s was Salted Caramel. The note just said, let’s share some tea and have a chat! Call me when you get this and we’ll sip and talk. Last night my momma sent a text. She was so surprised and happy. She doesn’t drink coffee so she is trying the tea this morning. So far I have mailed them to my sisters and momma but I’m branching out now to neighbors and just people who need a little happy in their day.

I hope you all have a happy day! It’s book release day so I’ll be busy today!

He Owns My Heart!

It’s Birthday Time! Corbin is officially 6 years old today!! His party will be this weekend and will be fun I’m sure. So Happy Birthday Lovey!

I had an early morning appointment in the gloomy, drizzly weather. I’m sitting in the waiting room and this woman lights up a vape thingy and my asthma kicks in and Tommy is all full of righteous indignation on my behalf. Then the big lady comes out and tells them to get out of there with that vape thing, that they know better. So I’m hacking up a lung telling the doctor I’m fine. And I am. Allergies and all of the rain are just not fun for those of us who are sensitive.

I turned my phone off over the entire weekend. And you know what? It was bliss. I played music, I danced, I crocheted and watched Stranger Things. It was an entire self-care time. And by last night I was good. I felt cleansed of all the blah stuff on social media.

We had plans for today but they got changed so we went on a trip to Lake Hefner and had some nature time. Some of the roads and trails were under water still, but we met some lovely ducks and cranes.

Have a good Monday! Coming tomorrow….my Momma joins Instagram! You’ve all been warned so clean up any sex related posts. She doesn’t mind cussing. Just sex.

Green Tea With Jasmine by Taylor’s and some Oddities

My Post (2)

It has been a heck of a morning here. I am trying to be all Zen having some nice Taylor’s Green Tea with Jasmine. It’s one of my favorites. As are some of these odd pots.

People are always sending me pictures of weird teapots and these take the cake!

I can see how the gun pot would be nice. Take out your aggressions while pouring tea. And seriously that looks like a sturdy handle.  The row of dancing pots look like a fun crowd. Very lively.

The others however are just plain wrong. I don’t want my tea out of a penis or a dictator. The dancing lady, well I still can’t figure out where the tea goes in.

As many of you know my own precious daddy went to the permanent deer camp in the sky a while back. Yesterday his partner in crime, fun, fishing and hunting, Louis Walker left this earth to go play with daddy and their dogs. Today my heart goes out to his wife and daughters. This man put the fun in everything and my heart is breaking for them all. So we’ll be driving to Mississippi for a funeral soon.

We are expecting horrid weather beginning tonight. A ‘significant weather event’. That never turns out well so it looks like the whole world is getting a good soak.

xx Patricia   Stay safe and love your tribe!

Bring your cup, I’ve got treats!

I noticed this morning that I had some apples that needed eating so I decided to make some Apple Crisp. I’ve got my recipe out and I’m caramelizing the apples and then began to make the crumble on top. First ingredient? Oatmeal. I don’t have that type of oatmeal. I use steel-cut oats. What to do?

I looked in the cupboards and found some instant Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal packets. 2 of them equaled 1 cup! Before I sautéed the apples, I poached them in Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea for about 45 minutes. Then let out the liquid and added a couple of tablespoons of Kerrygold butter and a tablespoon of sugar and let them get all gooey and yummy. The crumble went off without a problem and the entire thing smells like heaven!

Shopped for Corbin’s birthday gifts yesterday. Do you tend to go overboard on birthdays? I know we do and we are all trying to stop. Had the Landie serviced and cleaned and in doing so discovered what the odd smell int the back was. A towel from the lake and it was in a Rubbermaid box so that went into the trash.

Last night we met up with Aunt Gayle and had dinner at the Olive Garden and had a nice visit with her. We also checked out the new Burlington in Midwest City. Awesome! Very nice store.

WE are supposed to have rain over the next few days so I’m going to try to get in some tennis and running. Then I’ll come home and complain about how badly my thighs hurt.

xx Patricia!

We watched a Monarch being born!!!

Oh doesn’t the universe laugh when we make a plan! No, it was not a book and bed day yesterday.

Instead it was a last-minute hustle to get to Corbin’s school to help out with the Monarch Migration in the Monarch Gardens. So at noon here we were leading classes of kids through the book, the habitat that has been in the library until one glorious butterfly was born.

The second class was Corbin’s and wouldn’t you know it just as Miss Sarah got to the chrysalis part the other brown one started breaking open! And out came a little butterfly. It felt like we were cheering on someone giving birth that we didn’t know, but it was awesome!

My group was the boys so we looked all around the garden for caterpillars, eggs, and of course butterflies, which were plentiful. We found the one caterpillar on the stripped milkweed plant and a few eggs on the under side of one of the plants.

One of the little girls asked me which kid was mine. I told her Corbin and I’m not even sure what happened next. She started yelling at all the girls and pointing at me yelling ‘Hey y’all she’s Corbin’s Nana!! I looked at the other mom and said ‘Is this a big thing?’ ‘Oh yes, she said. Corbin is a hot property, even my daughter moons over him.’ If you notice on the bench he is sitting on there are only girls. All I could think was please lord don’t let him be a pimp or a cult leader. Then another girl asked me if I could talk to him because he doesn’t like her. Me? Uh, okay, here have an acorn!

I learned that my baby is really in to following the rules. I was in and out of his room a few times and he never looked up from his work. But when he saw PaPa in the doorway I thought he would burst. He also saw the glass of sweet tea in PaPa’s hand so it was probably the promise of sweet tea!

All in all we loved it and intend to do a lot more. The garden is a school/community garden and we can go work there and pick things anytime, so I’m keeping my eye on the pumpkin patch!

Turns out it was a much better day than the one I planned. And I am still amazed at that little brown thing becoming a butterfly! How insane!

Have a good Tuesday and be a school volunteer. Especially if you have been a teacher like Tommy and I . Things have changed and we can’t wait until the Fall Festival on Friday night!
