Keep Your Face Toward The Sun!

Thursday is almost gone and I haven’t heard from the PCH folks yet. I’m seriously annoyed too. My hair is done, my nails are done, even my toes, and I’m waiting….

Sipping on a nice Chamomile Tea to calm my nerves and my tummy. I think I caught a stomach bug and I’m trying to keep it soothed. It has been days since this cold front moved in. No snow or precipitation, just slick spots on the roads because we have been below freezing most of the week. But school is closed! A branch falls off a tree and school is closed!

I may not be in the best mood. I think it takes a bit of time to unwind yourself from all of the tension one has during a  health crisis. Of course it hasn’t helped that Tommy slipped on the ice and is now black and blue on the side he just had surgery on.

My partner in crime and I have decided on a trip to an island with great snorkeling and lots of diamonds and shopping. Just the two of us. So she made me feel better today. I’m just channeling yellow today. Sunshine! That feeling of the sun on your face that means Spring has arrived.  We shall rent a VW Bug and cruise the beach and soak up all of that liquid gold.

And now  I shall go back to bed with my tea and have an adventure in a book!

Be Safe. Be Warm. Stay Wild!

MARDI GRAS MEMORIES

Happy Wednesday! It’s doing something outside. Not rain, but freezing little pellets turning the streets into ice rinks. Tommy called on his way to work and said there were emergency vehicles everywhere and wrecks and backed up traffic.

Yesterday we had a back up on I-35 because of a load of toilet paper being flung like Mardi Gras beads from a float! Not sure what that was but I would have picked those suckers up!

Mardi Gras is the thing we miss the most living away from the coast. 3 days out of school, parades and balls begin in January and will culminate with the biggest Krewes rolling on the big day itself March 5th. The one we look forward to the most is the Pass Christian parade. Somebody always gets shot at or just shot at that one. Hopefully not this year as my sweetie pie niece, Baleigh, is a Maid for the first time! So much fun.

We decorate the heck out of anything that will hold still! Nails, hair, lots of wine glasses, wreaths and my mother in law even has trees! Like Christmas! Since our Krewe of Hera always kicked off the season as the first ball and always on New Year’s Eve, it was a long time before I ever did anything on that night except put on a costume or a ball gown and let the good times roll. I mean who doesn’t like a good ball, with a mask on?? Good Times!

I was going to go for a run but then I opened the door and that didn’t happen. Ye Gods people make up your mind on the weather situation! The ducks are back in the pool, that means its warm time. Get it together.

I hope you are staying warm and safe! I am doing my nails because tomorrow the Publisher’s Clearinghouse People said they would be in my neighborhood, and we all know they don’t lie….js

Lemon Lavender Lane Tea with Lemon Lust Loaf! Mmmmmm

Monday morning and we’ve accomplished quite a bit already this morning. Started at Target to pick up Tommy’s meds and a new pillar candle, then to Starbucks for a latte’, and on to the Library to grab some books. Tommy has headed to the Cancer Center for his after surgery 2 week appointment and I’m not going there.

The wind is outrageous today! It may be in the 50’s but that wind is not! So, let’s talk about tea. This is one I discovered last summer and stocked up. It is a delicate tea with a smooth lavender flavor and a back note of tart lemon. It was the perfect thing to go with my Lemon Lust Loaf.

We are off on Mondays and Tuesdays so I’m hoping Tommy can rest and I can read. I have been on a crafting jag the past few days and accomplished a few things I saw on Pinterest and on Kelleysdiy one of which was the lantern.

Dollar Tree lantern made with 4 frames💵❤️   Now I stopped into Burlington and saw this lovely lantern with a bit of bling. $25. I stopped at the Dollar Tree and found 4 4×6 frames for $1 each and they also had some bling. So for $4 I made my own and like it better! Just rip of the backs, which I saved in the craft basket, I put a couple of drops of glue on the back so the glass wouldn’t fall out and then glued the sides together and Voila’!  I also did a couple of floral arrangements and a Spring wreath.

How is your Monday going? Did you do anything fun over the weekend? Has anyone seen the Twinings Soothe Tea anyplace? I can’t find it anywhere and I am out, so let me know!

THESE WINDS ARE NOT SWEEPING! SEE YOU SOON KANSAS!

Happy Saturday! The sun is shining brightly and the wind gusts are at 60 mph! I may end up in Kansas today. Having a quick working lunch and a pot of tea and then I’m putting stones in my pockets and walking across to the market.

I’ve already popped red beans in the slow cooker so dinner is done. Tommy took the rest of the birthday cake to work today, so that demon is gone. The day before I had made my Lemon Lust Loaf ( which is just my Lemon Lust Cupcake Recipe) and he took that to work and the GM wouldn’t share and denied any knowledge of said loaf. She did offer to marry me though. It’s a really lemony and light sponge.

Today I am sick to death of news and slimy old men and hookers. Geez people have some self-respect! Do these men ever think of their families and the damage they do? But then I look at said old, orange men and think, well….if I was married to them I wouldn’t be sleeping with them. Sorry ladies of the night. My sister posted a thing on FB about Melania being so classy and I couldn’t help but send her the woman’s entire nude porn shoot. So it’s best if I just go about my crafting and shut up.

Enjoy the day or just ignore it!

SOFT PINKS AND LAMBS EAR GREENS

388393498cc217fe2b70192714ddfe85

Friday! We made it! Although Spring and Winter need to get together and figure out who’s leaving and who’s staying! It is cold and gloomy outside still. But I’m getting ready for Spring.

I love the softness of this pink. Along with the faded green of Lamb’s Ear. I’m making a wreath and a few other things to go in a Spring Tableau. Along with Peonies and Cabbage Roses, I’m hoping for success. It will be a craft weekend, as it is supposed to rain and be cold.

The birthday boy was delighted with his cake and had two pieces. It was darn good. We did nothing special at all except eat cake and snuggle on the sofa. He thanks everyone for their birthday wishes.

I thought I would share Corbin’s Winter Ball.

There is a video of them bowing and dancing but I won’t embarrass him further. These two are great friends. He has a crush on the girl from the ice cream shop this summer, but is way too shy to ask her to dance!

I hope you have something fun planned for this weekend. Stay warm and think Spring thoughts!

OU Boy Turns 40! Happy Birthday Babe!

It’s finally here! OU Boy turned 40 today! I asked him if he felt wiser and he said no I feel older. Well, I said, it’s all down hill from here!

I made his Triple Chocolate Threat cake. I was hoping he would take it to work, as we are full in the sweets department right now. But no, they are all still sitting there tempting me as I try to ignore them all.

40 years old. He was 24 when he knocked at my door and never left. Against all odds he graduated with honors, blew out his elbow pitching at college, almost died from appendicitis and a botched gall bladder surgery. Had the worst upbringing possible, imagine your dad leaving you in the car asleep while he went in the strip club. That bad. He is wicked smart and hilariously funny. He’s already had 5 heart attacks, one double by-pass, numerous stints and now Da Tumor. So I really hope he has gotten all of the bad crap out-of-the-way.

I am so proud of the man he has become. I am glad that he puts up with my shenanigans and even though he lives in fear of Homeland showing up one day because of me, he puts up with it because he loves me. And I love him. We get each other like no one else could.

I hope today is everything you want it to be, except for golf, we aren’t cleared for golf yet.

Happy Birthday Love!

PIE HARD by KIRSTEN WEISS DEBUTING ON THE 26th!!

At Pie Town, Val Harris is still in her first year and while business is a little slow right now she isn’t about to throw in the towel.

Unbeknownst to Val her much older pie crust baker, Charlene has signed the shop up for the reality television show Pie Hard. Walking into her shop to find strangers and cameras is not what Val needs at the moment. But with Charlene whispering in her ear listing all of the good things and publicity they would receive, she caves.

Pie Hard, like all reality shows, thrives on drama and trust me there is no lack of drama in this tale. Rude, late, and pushy, Val doesn’t know how much of this she can take. Charlene has already forgotten to tell her she rented a piece of the land where Val’s tiny house sits to a group of Yurt loving, goddesses for the week and she still isn’t sure if she has a boyfriend or not.

When one  of her gaming regulars, Ray calls to say he just saw a body fall off the cliff at the hotel where the entire crew is staying, Val and Charlene are on the case. Val is hoping they all just go on home, but no, fate has something even more shocking in store for her! The new producer.

When even more bodies start piling up they know they need to solve this thing before Pie Town dies a hard death!

What makes a really good Cozy Mystery Series? Characters. And Ms. Weiss has given us an abundance of them. Not the typical ditzy ones. Characters you could meet in any small town. They have depth, flaws, quirks, just like the rest of us. They are relatable. This is what I like to call an intelligent cozy. There are so many layers of intrigue in this one that I read it straight through! Just when you think you know who did what and why, you don’t. I love it when I read a story and go WHAT?? at the wrap up.

Very Well Done!

Thanks so much for the ARC KW!

Never Underestimate The Importance of the Little Things!

I’m running very late today. But it has been a day! Bright and sunny and no sign of the weather that had schools closed yesterday and even the library closed and the coffee shop. I swear we got maybe 100 flakes of snow/sleet. I don’t understand it at all.

It’s been a very busy week for us. I met with my therapist Monday morning and I unloaded all of my worries on her. Tommy’s dressing came off and I got to see the incision. It was much longer than I thought. 7 inches. And Dr. White said he needed every one of those inches to get that tumor out. But it looks good.

We’ve been doing soft and lazy stuff. Drinking tea, napping, watching Ender’s Game and just letting go of all of the tension from the pre-surgery results. Which we got! No Cancer! Laying around reading and rubbing each other’s feet. Just doing a lot of self-love. The kids spent the night on Friday night. We watched Venom again and just hung out. Corbin was most upset that he didn’t get a chocolate heart, but a chocolate shake fixed that.

He had his dance and he and Emma were voted King and Queen. Kindergarten is a lot different from when I was there! Anyway he looked adorable in his crown and royal robe. This Friday is Talent Show Night. I shudder to think what will happen, but I made cookies.

I don’t know if it was Tommy’s nether regions returning from numbness, saving the world from being destroyed and giving us some stress relief or if I had a head injury but today I woke up and by afternoon tea time I had made a cake for his birthday tomorrow ( the big 40), I made 2 of my Lemon Lust Loaves and lots of dark chocolate chip cookies, plus I have a pork roast in the slow cooker. Don’t get used to it.

So I’m having some nice Harney & Sons Blue and Yellow tea with a slice of Lemon Lust Loaf!

Along with clean sheet day, this is just heavenly!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Oh Wednesday, I am so happy to see you! I’m trying to ease back into my schedule now that the horrible plague and Tommy’s surgery are over. He went to work this morning. I doubt if he’ll make it an entire day, but he’s determined.

Yesterday he overdid it and ended up having to take a pain pill and that started the throwing up so we missed Corbin’s musical event last night, which killed us, but I got video and it was so cute.

So the house was very quiet when I got up this morning. I came around the living room corner to go make tea and almost had a stroke. There was a 7 foot tall balloon bouquet standing there and I screamed “I have a bat!” The worst part? I put it there. It was for Tommy for Valentines Day. Because we celebrate so many birthdays tomorrow we do V-Day early.  The heat had kicked on and it was swaying like one  of those things in front of a car dealership. Scared me good. And not just once. Coming back too! That was pre-caffeine.

The Whisky Cake Café 🥃😍😍

We went to Whiskey Cake Cafe’ the day before surgery and I had this delicious Parsnip-Apple Soup. Oh was it good. This is the famous whiskey cake. Gayle ordered Gingersnap Ice cream with hers and declared it transformative. It also comes with a bowl of freshly whipped cream. It was all delicious, the cake has whiskey and apples and sticky toffee…yum. If you haven’t been please do. The place is so cute and everything was just warm and welcoming.

Time to put on the running shoes and get back at it. Hope your day is peaceful and warm.
