Feeling Rather Dotty Today

1492867770713

Sipping on some Harney & Sons Bartlett Pear Loose Leaf Tea this morning. It has lovely little bits of dried pear that are so yummy.

Absolutely Pearfect

I just did not sleep well last night. Woke up with a headache and now I’m calmly sipping and writing while my Russian neighbor may be really pissed at her son or someone is trying to kill her. Either way I’m watching through the drapes. I have never seen a grown man be so dramatic before. So not a hit man I’m guessing.

I have been looking at vacation spots for August. In June I’m going to New Orleans and boarding a cruise ship. Hey, Jamaica, I’m coming back….  All by myself. Yes. I am going on a cruise by myself. I love cruises. Out on the open water and doing nothing but eat, sleep, tan. Heaven.

I’ve been working on painting a polka dot teapot. There is just something so cheery about polka dots. I’m obsessed, mildly.

Have yourself a great Thursday!

Tea and Sarcasm!

Since most of you know I have a sarcastic and  morbid sense of humor. When I saw these lovely tea cups and saucers I started wondering if I could use them in a theme tea of some sort.

A Sarcasm, Over the top, tea party. Where we are all just swooning and sipping our tea and being catty and sarcastic. And everyone gets to take home a cup and saucer. We shall work on that for a bit.

Otherwise I shall give them to people as gifts and let them figure out if it’s sarcasm or not. Maybe one to Trump. Everyday I wake up and hope he’s just gone…with all of his Evangelical brothers and sisters to the Rapture. But no. He’s still here being an idiot.

I’m in a rather snitty mood today. Our vacation to Padre Island was moved by the rest of the “family” to Port Aransas. I would never go there on purpose and none of them have been there. I sent Tommy a text and he sent back. ” Me. You. Sandestin.Hyatt.Done”.

Problem solved. I have to go watch the next episode of The OA on Netflix before Tommy gets home. We are in too deep now.

xx P  Also where is the spell check button now???

Happy Earth Day! Transformation Complete!

Happy Earth Day! It’s a pretty gray one here. The Arts Festival set up downtown this morning for a week, which means it will rain all week. I am 100 on this. I didn’t think our rain was supposed to come until Wednesday and then I read they were setting up downtown and sure enough, it started to drizzle. Oh well.

I finally finished the bedroom re-do. The room has white blinds and the challenge was to not use hardware of any kind. After numerous trips to design shops and some arguing in Home Depot, I found a way to rise to the challenge. Our entire house is ocean/beach inspired because that’s who we are and where we come from. It comforts us.

I left the blinds up and closed them. Measured about a dozen times the window which is not quite level. Finally I found an oil canvas that I loved as it reminded me of the piers at home and the shadows it cast were very nice. I had a nice fellow cut me a piece of 3 inch wood and painted it white and plopped the canvas on top and pushed just a bit and Voila! It fit perfectly with no hardware. Now I have a focal point that changes as the sun hits the window and at night it looks like the sun is setting. I have an extensive hat collection so I popped some at the top and use those white stretchy fasteners. I have an entire wall of them on the other side. Now I’m looking for the perfect throw.

I’m done with that experiment now and have written it all down. I can see this as being something apartment dwellers or renters could do to keep from putting a lot of nails in the wall as well as a decorating tool.

Time to go make the tea…Have a safe Monday and show the Earth some love!

DOWN THE BUNNY TRAIL…AND PIE!

Good Friday! I’m wishing I was closer to my Momma this time of year so I could have her coconut cake. My momma is a world-class baker and cake decorator.  Between her coconut cake and her pound cakes we should all be morbidly obese by now.

The one thing we both loved was those Cream Cheese Mints that melt in your mouth and contain 2 pounds of powdered sugar! Yesterday I spent most of the day stirring and then rolling some into tiny egg shapes and the rest the round flat only I used a wax seal with my initials and made them all fancy. I’m mailing them to her.

The BEST Cream Cheese Mints you'll ever try! This incredibly easy recipe yields the most delicious, luscious, melt-in-your-mouth cream cheese mints around! Make them in any color you like! Perfect for Easter, baby showers, weddings, and more! // Mom On Timeout #candy #creamcheese #mints #recipe #dessert #party #babyshower #food #recipes #desserts #momontimeout #Easter #wedding

Since it is Strawberry Season I had a fridge full of berries and Tommy said he had never heard of Strawberry Pie from Shoney’s!  Oh the horror! Luckily we know this one by heart so by the time he got here there was a counter full of drying mints, and a chilled strawberry pie with homemade whipped cream. It was perfect. Even the crust was British Baking Show quality. Which is rare for me.

I wish you all a lovely Easter and a grand weekend.  I’ll be reading and finishing some projects and am trying to stay off the internet so I don’t lose my mind with all the politics!

BLUEBERRY GREEN TEA AND A TALE

Crazy busy around the household. That weather guy is saying storms are coming this evening. It’s been windy every day so if you step outside you look like the lion king.

I made a recipe that Diane had on her blog for Lemon Blueberry Loaf. I doubled it and made two so I could give one to friends. It is delicious! Check it out  Here  .

I had just the tea to go along with it. The Harney & Sons Blueberry Green Tea. It is insanely delicious and so is the loaf. Tommy was taking pictures and sending them to his co-workers it was so good.

I’ve gotten so many things done over the week-end and the past couple of days. I’m giving my bedroom a makeover. I’m waiting on one shipment from Linens and Hutch with my new sheets and shams and I think I’ll be done. Since we are sea people I wanted a white background with all the colors of the beach we know for rugs, pillows and window treatments. The window treatment I am most proud of and I’ll show you after the sheets arrive. It’s all part of an article on downsizing and being creative.

Just in case you have started thinking I’ve finally got my shit together…. I ordered new swimsuits for vacations this summer and they arrived this morning so I immediately dropped my jammies to try on the swimsuits. One top was really cute so I took a selfie to send to my sister. It said, ” How do you like my new boobs?”  and then I pushed the wrong button and sent it to pretty much everyone on my Messenger list including my mom and an author friend.  A guy. It may be all over the internet by now for all I know. He immediately sent a What???? back and I asked him to not look and he was such a gentleman and good sport about it. So yeah, I’m still doing stupid shit on the daily. Some dude on Twitter asked if anyone would date someone with a mental health issue and Tommy answered, I do and so does she. That about sums us up.

For us Catholics this is Holy Week and believe it or not I received a reminder in the mail this morning that I have confession at 5:30 tonight. This is not going to be good.

Historic Royal Palace Teas and Cannoli

Pairing the Historic Royal Palaces Royal Wedding Tea from Harney & Sons Teas with a couple of mini cannoli is a wonderful idea!

The Royal Wedding tea is a white tea with pink rosebuds, cornflowers, marigold petals, natural almond, vanilla and coconut.  Steep 4 minutes and sip. It is such a smooth and aromatic tea. It would be appropriate for a wedding and is a perfect dessert tea. Or just a really good Friday treat!

It has been beautiful outside and I’ve been putting the house back together now that the kids are with their parents. We had Charli’s baseball practice on Wednesday night and that was fun. Thursday night we kept thinking we had misplaced them and I think the amount of crumbs under the table would have kept two dogs busy.

Now we are back to normal or what passes for normal here. Tonight it’s just leftovers and Netflix. I hope you all survive the snowstorm in the north, I see my sister took the last flight out of South Dakota and took herself to the Gulf Coast. Smart girl!

What is everyone up to this weekend?

LIFE, DEATH and CHEESECAKE

timefortea

Tuesday Morning and I am sipping a new Decaf Espresso Chai. I needed caffeine. I’m holding my eyes open with sheer willpower!

We have been so busy with the kids and school things and sports that on Sunday we had to just take a breath. Charli has third grade testing this month and it began today. So we did practice tests and a lot of math and tears and reading and sighs…oh the drama of being 8 years old!

Last night Aunt Gayle saved us all by taking us to The Cheesecake Factory so we didn’t have to cook and the kids could get to bed early and be well rested for today.

Now Charli Ava is our sweets addict. As you can see she’s watching Aunt Gayle like a hawk waiting for her bites!  No one wanted to share this Red Velvet Cheesecake and since it’s been years since I had eaten cheesecake and I was feeling very smug for having a Beet Salad for dinner, I ordered this. And ate a large chunk!

Their parents should be home tonight. I told the kids that if they didn’t go home tonight I was dropping them at the Fire Department. I’m only half kidding here. They are always a joy to have. Except for Saturday when Corbin decided to color with a permanent marker. Thin sheets mean bleed through. On to my coffee table. I was so stressed I just sat down and sobbed. Corbin came in and said, “Don’t cry Gran, I did it. I’m sorry and I love you so please don’t cry.” Heart melts….. And then the me in him comes out when he tries ” Let’s just cover it up with a book and PaPa won’t notice.”

All in all it’s been a successful 7 days. Everyone is alive. No one has any owies except for growing pains at night. Still haven’t figured out how to help with that. We tried a heating pad last night and Charli said it helped a lot. Any Ideas out there??

Also it helps if you have a split of Prosecco after dinner! Aquaman looked even better with a glass of that!

On a different topic, our elderly neighbor Bert who the kids love, was struck and killed by a car on his morning walk yesterday. Right outside the kid’s bedroom window. Bert served in the Vietnam War, had severe head trauma and had been run over before and I was very upset at the unfairness of it. He deserved a peaceful passing and we will miss him terribly. Rest soft, Bert.

Going to take a nap. Have a good Tuesday. It should be in the 90’s here today.

Crafting and Baking Easter Goodies

Saturday, where is that 100% chance of rain? Our baseball game was cancelled so now we have an entire day to think up Easter crafts. I also have to make a Raisin Rum Cake for a friend.

The kids have been sending pictures of D.C. The Holocaust Museum was especially gut wrenching, especially the room with shoes. Last night they went to the ballet at the Kennedy Center and I’m wondering if they just moved there….

We went to Hideaway Pizza since everyone had a good report card and then home where we colored and discussed current events. And why girls have cooties. Also the why of men having nipples.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. There is the Annual Redbud Classic 5K today that goes right by my house so we will cheer them on!

AT THIS POINT WE ARE REALLY JUST WINGING IT!

Piratepatty

Oh the many shades of yellow this time of year! As we were driving to multiple baseball practices yesterday evening we saw so many beautiful flowers. One home was surrounded by white tulips. It was a very bold choice but it worked very well.

I am basically just mainlining Chai today. You know the saying, ” Man plans and God laughs”….yep. I was prepared for anything. Except a last-minute field change for Charli Ava. We were dropped off and the boys headed for the Boathouse District for Corbin’s practice. Long story short, my girl got on base every time she hit and got stuck on second flirting with a boy on second and the little boy on first just ran around her. It was funny as heck. The team is made up of first timers and they all admitted to being nervous and scared. Having coached this age before I explained how things worked. Like what a bag is or a base. Somehow I’m now the Team Mom and will have snack duty for the rest of Spring.

Tommy picked us up and we all went to get Corbin. His Uncle was there with his little one. We arrive, James and Corbin have been horsing around and Corbin slid into a base and scraped his knee so now it’s blowing like crazy out and cold, Corbin is declaring his imminent demise while shoving muffin in his face and bleeding on my seats. Luckily we had a quick dinner before we left for the fields. Corbin couldn’t take a bath because he was dying and no one cared and if he got in the tub he would for sure die. Y’all know we are a dramatic bunch of Scots/Irish/Norwegian folks. We can spin a yarn, die on a daily basis and be stubborn as hell. So we chose not to fight this battle. Everyone was in bed on time and asleep soon after. Then we just sat there and stared at the blank television. Wondering if my Momma had wine. And is it okay to sleep in your clothes?

Around midnight or so we had a vicious storm move through. Big thunder and lightning which ended with Tommy sleeping in Corbins room until the storm passed. The only one who was an adult was Charli. She gets up as soon as the alarm goes off, makes her bed, hits up the bathroom rituals and eats breakfast she made herself. We had to re-bandage the scraped knee and get our Picture Day clothes on. By the time they were all out the door with lunches and backpacks I was understanding why my mother was always in a bad mood. Tommy just looked at me and said, “Thank you for not getting knocked up!”. My pleasure dude.

Corbin suggested that he call in sick on Friday because we needed to rest. I’m not one bit ashamed of at least thinking about it. But no activities tonight so it should be calmer. Should.

To all of you moms and dads out there getting your kids to school and practices on time…I salute you!  To the mom at practice who agreed it is okay to Uber them, I have wine now. Come over.

THE HISTORIC ROYAL PALACES COLLECTION

Wednesday already? Where did the time go? Saturday I was so happy to see this lovely red box from Harney and Sons! I knew it meant a Royal Palaces tea tin. I already have some others and these were the last two.

harneygreenteas

The Green Tea with Coconut, Ginger and Vanilla and Lemongrass. The aroma is very soft. This is a delicate tea. I steeped it for 3 minutes in not quite boiling water. It tasted smooth and bright with that zing of ginger left on the back of your tongue. There is the brightness of the green tea and the surprise of coconut and they all come together to make a perfect tea for anytime. I’ve had it twice hot and I made a chilled one as well and it was delicious.

Well Mike and Jodi are on a plane headed to D.C.  I may have (she did) have a major panic attack yesterday talking to Mike. I’m sobbing about him driving a bus that far and he pops in with You should be worried about the plane. Well that was it. I cried this morning when they dropped off an entire car load of things for the kids. Ballet, hip hop, t-ball, coach pitch, school picture clothes and uniforms. They already have double of everything here.

Yesterday we were doing prep work and I asked Tommy to make the mini-muffins. He did not do it correctly (her way) and I tossed them in the trash. This morning so far I’ve made 4 dozen blueberry muffins and 4 dozen chocolate chip muffins. 2 dozen Brownie Bites, a Red Velvet Cake and a sauce for pasta tonight. Lunches are planned out and snacks are grab and go. Tonight we have practice at 5 p.m. for Charli Ava and I am so OCD about being prepared. Although Corbin has already asked if he could just not go to school and stay with me. Now I have 2 and a half hours to wash my hair, Lay out clothes and read a book.

Hopefully I will be alive tomorrow. Or drunk. Who knows?
