Dear Rain, Yes or No on the Ark?

Saturday in the rain. Again. Seriously enough. Yesterday was a good day. I decided to make lunch and some tea. Honestly, I only ate the strawberries. But tea! I tossed in a Celestial Seasonings Mountain Chai and a small homemade bag of turmeric. Turmeric is an amazing spice. I use it for a lot of things. It just doesn’t have the best taste by itself. But this was really good. Do you ever mix different teas?

This morning I woke up with a headache. The rain and allergies are adding to the pressure in my head and it is miserable.

Tommy played in a golf tournament yesterday. Personal best for him. He came home with prizes and swag bags! Now I am the proud owner of my own tall Yeti and a tumbler for my tea! Lots of notepads, golf tees, hand sanitizer, and a small duffle bag. There was snack stuff too. Also a bottle of Jack Daniels and 2 Thunder glasses. Those did not make it to me as I don’t drink that.  I do love goodie bags. I’m like a 5 year old at a birthday party.

Since I overdid it yesterday on screen time, I am being very good today.  I hope everyone has a lovely Saturday. We’ll be over here working on the ark.

KINDNESS IS FREE SO USE IT LIBERALLY

Still off caffeine here, so this mornings tea is brought to you by STASH  Mayer Lemon. I was quite sure it was Saturday when I woke up but the calendar says no. It’s Friday.

Yesterday was not a good day. Bruising your brain is not fun. Concussions are not fun. Like I said it wasn’t a good day. The nausea was back in full force and the pain was awful. I had run out of ice packs and ice so my kind neighbor Mr. Eddie popped up at the door with an entire bag of ice!

I’ve had concussions before. Never this bad. I ride horses, I played college volleyball, I jumped out of a giant live oak to prove I could fly ( I did not in fact fly), I have by now broken every finger many times, my tail bone 3 times, once in a cemetery on a headstone. I had 2 torn ACLs, and of course we have all had at least one pinky toe incident, but this thing is bringing me to my knees.

Yesterday one of my favorite authors sent me a private message telling me about her concussion and filling in any information I did not have. It was really kind of her to do and I told her that. She said, call me anytime if you have questions!

And Tommy, the kindest of them all, has done dishes, brought my meds, calls every few hours to check on me and picks up dinner. The only things in my fridge right now is iced tea, almond milk and spinach. I’m hoping he will be kind enough to go shopping tonight.

Kindness touches me. All the way to my core. For some reason I never expect it. And when it happens I will never forget it. It costs nothing but is worth more than gold.

Thank you all for being kind and funny and thoughtful. I am going back to sleep now!

A Spot of Tea and a Funny Tale

Thursday and I am still in bed. With a lot of Tummy tea and an ice pack on my head.

Still no super hero abilities. This is my little bit of screen time today. Checking in to see if everyone has better weather than we do. Enough with the rain already!

I do have one funny story. My Momma is living totally out of her element right now. After my Daddy passed, we all knew he wanted to be buried with his entire family in Bottineau, North Dakota. So my Momma moved up there too since I have a sister living there. It is a tiny town that I spent all of my summers out at the farm. So yesterday I called the local florist to have some flowers sent to my Momma.

Me: Hello I would like to order an arrangement for my Momma

Her: (Imagine a Norwegian accent) Okay then, and her name?

Me: Barbara

Her: Patty? Is that you?

Me: Uh, yes.

Her: Oh my goodness how’s your eye? Don’t you worry about a thing, I’ll get over to Barbs tomorrow morning with something really cheery.

Me: Ok thanks. Who is this?

Her: Cathy Olson from the farm.

Me: Hi Cathy! How are you? It’s good to hear your voice

Her: You just go back to bed now. Take care of that head!

That is how small the town is. I never gave an address even. And sure enough my Momma sent me a text and a picture of the flowers this morning.

I love these people!

Flowers, Marriage Proposals and a Concussion!

It has been a wild few days here in OKC. Last night was full of wind, rain, hail and tornadoes. It’s still raining.

I had a lovely birthday Sunday. The six year old gave me a card asking me to marry him and he was not happy that Tommy had given me flowers. All the Rum Cake was sent off to folks who could eat it. Tommy had one piece and had to take a nap.

Monday gets trickier. Monday I was trying to get Tommy to do some yoga stretches and instead ended up falling backwards and whacking the heck out of my head on a large trunk. Which led to throwing up, confusion, and a hospital stay. I was terrified I had hurt my eye in some way so Tommy called Dean Magee and they had someone at OU Med quickly. After a gazillion tests, CT scans and me reading a line of the eye chart T O D L 9, I kept mixing numbers and letters.

I have a bad concussion and I am not allowed screen time for at least a week, so I’ll be over here, in the bed, resting and wondering if I’ll get any kind of talent or super power like the girl in The OA. So far I can’t speak with a British accent but I’m eerily quiet.

Enjoy your week. Be Safe. I’ll be back!

Planting The Garden

Just as Spring has come to us I saw this morning that snow is still hanging on as long as it can up north. I’m so sorry. It may be windy as the devil here but it’s warm and sunshiny and I’m starting in the Herb garden this afternoon.

I love fresh herbs year round and we usually have Rosemary and Lavender year round so those are taken care of. My mint is up and growing nicely and I think some Dill and Lemongrass, Chives and Cilantro and Parsley.

I need to catch up on reading this weekend so that is where I will be. I hope you all are enjoying your Saturday. Since we have had so much rain on Saturdays lately today is back to back baseball for Charli. Go Dodgers!
