I realized this morning that I forgot to post this review of the last of my holiday teas. It’s Celestial Seasonings Cranberry Vanilla Wonderland. Caffeine Free! I was so excited by this one. I love cranberries! The aroma was a perfect combination of cranberry and vanilla. I couldn’t wait to taste it.

Now for the not so good news. It has Stevia in it. I kept tasting a bitter taste that just reminded me of chemicals, so I looked and sure enough it had this sweetener in it. With Crohn’s I am not able to eat any type of sweetener except honey. So it was a really great idea, but why put the sweetener in? Oh well.

So today is a tale I would rather not be telling but I need feedback, I need support and I thank my beautiful friend Cynthia for keeping me sane this past few days! She is the most supportive person I have ever met. She even offered to get in her truck and come up to us. I love her for that.

On December 30,  the year decided to give us one more F*** You!  We have been waiting on the results of tests Tommy (the hubby) had done for the tumors on his leg. We figured the one by his hip was just a fatty tumor, but even with our copy of the DVD of the MRI, we couldn’t tell what the other two were. So ‘Ting’ went his phone and it was a notice that results had been dropped in his patient portal. Hello, Dr. E has sent his findings to your surgeon Dr. C. Findings? Malignant neoplasm of connective and soft tissue of left leg and hip. Boom!  And just like that our world started spinning. The Anxiety Fairy brought a few friends even. And of course every doctor was out-of-town until the 3rd. Needless to say the past few days have been horrid. Lots of sobbing, anger and railing at the world about the unfairness of the situation.

The man isn’t even 40 for crying out loud and he has already had a double by-pass and 4 stents and numerous other heart issues. The last one they told me they couldn’t do any more. Things are all scribbly in there and they just can’t. Now he has never had high cholesterol, it’s all genetic. And now this. He is the kindest man you will ever meet and I am still so mad I want to hit someone until they hurt as bad as I do. ( Steel Magnolias.)

This morning he called his Cardiologist, Dr. H. Now that man is on the ball. We have an appointment on Friday. By then he will have all the scan and MRI results and one of his colleagues is an Oncologist right next door and he will walk us straight there if necessary. So our stress went down to a 20.

It’s always nice to begin a new year with a new project. Mine being a lot of research and also trying to figure out how we got mixed up so badly that now everytime I google anything it pops up on his phone! This can not happen. No one should see my browser history. Ever.  So that’s our news. I hope yours is better. Thanks for listening to my garbled mess of a post. And thanks for being a friend.

Rainy Day Supplies

I woke up to thunder, lightening and rain. It’s still going on. I thought I could get so much done, but no.

First let’s talk about the last of the holiday teas. Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. It smells and tastes like a sugar cookie. And it’s herbal and has no caffeine! I don’t have any sugar cookies to dunk because Tommy and the tiny terrorists ate them all. Every single one.

This has been a wild few days for us. To make it easier on Tommy and his leg I decided we would not go to midnight mass but to the 4:30 Mass. We arrived at 4 p.m. and had to park 3/4 of a mile away and walk. Now the church is only a mile from the house. I had not realized this was also the Children’s Choir service. There were over 300 people in the Atrium! And the inside of the church was packed as well. But very pretty and the priest said we had so many flowers he felt like Clark Griswold.

Christmas at Christ the King

A few interesting things happened at service. The couple in front of us had their 4 teen-aged children who were better behaved than their parents who had obviously hit the egg nog early as they giggled and kissed and transferred gum from their mouths. Even the kids were giving them the side eye. Then their was the lovely fellow right in front of me who had on a Jimmy Buffett shirt and I had to look at Santa and his reindeer with a surf board in the sled and a naked hula girl by his side. So many questions I wanted to ask…. The children sang beautifully and all of the elected officials behaved and were sober.

Christmas Eve continued with Tommy constantly telling me to go to another room. He was doing Santa stuff. We had to run all over OKC just to find out my favorite patisserie was closed so we went to our second favorite because I’d rather pay someone to cook for me than mess up my kitchen.

We did brunch. Not a ham or a turkey or a pot to wash even. We had a lovely Florentine Quiche, a Cranberry Brie En Croute, Toast and Caviar, Hanky Pankies, which are like crack, Cinnabons and a lot of Prosecco, and Mimosas. The kids had their special cookies with cocoa and Tommy and Corbin played with his new drone which almost ended up in the pool. The rest of us quietly watched White Christmas and got sleepy.

The kids know us so well, they gave us a great restaurant gift card to all of our favorite places on Lake Hefner where we run. Tommy gave me a new teapot and a huge mirror. The mirror was a huge hit. Between me and the kids we are some pretty vain creatures. At least know I won’t have to stand on the bed to see my bottom half in a mirror! I gave Tommy the drone and when everyone left we stayed in our jammies and watched Netflix. If you haven’t seen The Derry Girls, it is hilarious.

Just now my neighbor, who had been to Ganache  Patisserie  this morning, brought over this! From the chef when he heard I was heartbroken he was closed. Good people.

And now it’s 3 in the afternoon and it’s still raining and I’m still in my pajamas.

I hope everyone had the exact type of day you wished for. Ours was very low-key and laid back. We had limited everyone to 3 gifts each and with Tommy hobbling around and worried still about our test results it was just what we needed. Time to just snuggle on the sofa and laugh and eat more cheese.

Now let’s get ready for Mardi Gras!

Gingerbread Tea? Yes! Gingerbread House? Meh….

I can just imagine the insanity that is the mall today! What a day we had yesterday. Mike dropped off the munchkins in the morning. After doing some wrapping and snooping, I thought this would be the perfect time to break out the spare gingerbread house kit and make some gingerbread tea. The tea was a hit. The house, well by the time we got it together we had eaten all the candy decorations so the birds have it now.

Since they were still amped up we made chocolate no-bake cookies and put them in tins. You can tell they are getting excited by how they smack each other if one of them even looks like they may be looking at the other one. So we turned on Netflix and watched The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Sooooo not like Sabrina, the teen-age witch from our childhood. Which went very well.
We tried to make a nativity scene but didn’t have a baby. I made the comment that I needed to get a baby and Corbin totally lost his mind. “We are not getting a baby! If you get a baby I am throwing it in the trash!” Well Sweetie that seems extreme. Why would you not want a baby? “Because you would love it more and I’m not taking that chance.”

Charli on the other hand was trying to convince me to let her move in. “Don’t you want me here all the time?” Of course I do, but I mean if something happened to your Daddy I guess you would come live with me. ” Maybe we should take a picture of him so when he’s dead and I’m living here we’ll remember him.” Well aren’t you a little morbid thing today!

They had their ballet and hip=hop recitals and that went about as well as it could being this is Oklahoma and there is a teen girl teaching 80’s hip hop and she wasn’t even born yet. But on a good note Charli finally told me I had the flossing dance down! All summer I have been trying to do that dance.

So today is quiet so far and I’m watching The Derry Girls which I love and reading a thriller.

Have a safe and peaceful weekend!

Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice Tea and The Kindness of Strangers

Holiday Teas are back

Can we just talk about this holiday tea a second? I am in love with the little tag along tins that come in each of the boxes. They are all caffeine free too. This one smelled so good and tasted just like gingerbread. So what is in this yummy tea? Cinnamon, Roasted Chicory, Ginger, Roasted Carob, Luo Han Guo. That’s it! And as William Shakespeare said” And I had but one penny in the world, thou should’st have it to buy gingerbread.”

Yesterday was Tommy’s MRI. At the hospital. Things were going well, we pulled up to the valet stand and were right on time for his appointment. They even made us a CD to take with us so we could see what they saw. By this time we are scared, tired and in pain. Back to the valet. They lost our keys. It was a huge cluster you know what! I was sure Tommy was going to have another heart attack right there. We could see our car from the stand. We saw the guy take our keys and head to the car. Then nothing for an hour.

A lovely nurse gave me the phone number for security and I called them and the valet supervisor. The head of security comes in and says he has called a locksmith and they will pay for it and do we want to have lunch or anything while we wait? I am staring at this guy like he is loony. “You do know that locksmiths can’t make keys for my Land Rover, right?” I swear he turned the color of paste.

Out of nowhere a very tall, stately gentleman appeared and we didn’t know him but he just sat with us. Offered to take us home or to lunch. They all just stayed with us. The nurse ran upstairs and came back with gift baskets of goodies and water even. As anxious as we were, I couldn’t help but notice the kindness of all of these strangers.

Finally the only person who actually took our advice and went to every car and checked it , Donna, the supervisor, came running in with our keys. They had been left in another car. Tears and hugs came next and then we got in our car and came home and stared at the wall for hours, then cried.

As for the CD. We saw what they saw. Suddenly it was all a little too real and by the end of the night all we could do was sit and hold on to each other. Our surgeon is out-of-town until Monday but our other doctor is calling as soon as they release the reports.

So to everyone yesterday who showed us so much love and care, thank you. I already contacted Integris and asked them to please do something special for these women who took the bull by the horns and made shit happen. They said they would.

And so we wait. And we will. Because it’s all we can do.

Holiday Teas are back with a free travel tin inside 😊

Happy Monday Morning!  I hope you all had a relaxing week-end. I spent it cleaning and re-arranging furniture. Something I do when I feel I don’t have control of a situation. Clean and re-arrange until my mind is clearer.

The MRI is tomorrow. We had misunderstood how anxious the surgeon was to get this taken care of until his office called and wanted to know why it wasn’t done yet. So we may be having a hospital Christmas.

Last night we had to run to the market and as usual I was lolly gagging down the tea aisle. Just as I told Tommy that I doubted they would have my new favorite Candy Cane Lane lo and behold there right in front of me in a special display were all of the above. I hit the holiday tea jackpot! And y’all each one contains a traveling tin for multiple bags of tea! I was so happy I threw in a bottle of Prosecco!

I already had the Sugar Cookie, but you never know, so I got another. I am a dunker. Give me tea or coffee and cookies and I will dunk the heck out of those suckers! The cute tiny gingerbread house is one of a few I bought for the kids. I actually made one from a kit and in the process got so frustrated I got out the hot glue gun and glued that sucker together. I’m not eating it so why not? It looks like something a half blind person (Moi) would make so I stuck it on top of the fridge. I was going to do two of them but after all that mess the other one went in the kids gifts! Let their mom handle that.

I posted this on FB yesterday hoping to get some help with a tree topper. I did not get any help so I’m thinking of using Corbin’s beanie baby angel bear.  If you have any edgier ideas please share!

Thank you all so much for the good wishes and prayers. They are much appreciated!

It’s A Caramel Apple Dream Y’all!

It's Fall Y'all!

I hope everyone made it home in one piece last night. Or did you stay home and hand out candy? I had a quiet night as our neighborhood gets shut down tight at 8 p.m. Out came the blockades and all 4 of the Nichols Hills Police and it was lights out!

Today’s tea is brought to you by Celestial Seasonings Caramel Apple Dream. And what a dream it is. My first cup was just tea. My second cup was stirred with one of those caramel sour apple lollies. The third was with a tiny amount of caramel mixed in and that was sinful. I am definitely baking with this one. Caramel Apple Bars sound nice.

The tiny terrorists hit up Mesta and came home stuffed with all kind of goodies. Corbin called to ask if I knew the difference between candy and vitamins. Cause some people put adult medicines in candy. And razor blades in apples. Good Lord, that was going around when I was a kid.Apparently they had a class on bad candy. He was not happy with his Daddy who told him NO to hanging out in the cemetery to pay homage to the dead. Lord help us all!

It was Fall when I opened the door this morning. Bright sunshine, leaves falling, and cold! I have been busy today. Cleared out all of the Halloween decorations. Roasted a Butternut Squash and made this delicious Butternut Squash and Apple Soup for tonight.

I sprinkled a bit of nutmeg on it. Then I grabbed my neighbor and asked her to taste it for me, as I thought it was freaking awesome! So did she! And it was so easy I didn’t even burn up a pot!

I split the squash and cooked it flesh side down with 1/2 a cup of water and stuck it in the oven for about 20 minutes. In my blender I put a cup of Organic Vegan Vegetable Stock, 2 Honeycrisp apples chopped up, the flesh of the squash and some cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger and blended it all together. To re-heat make sure you put your burner on low. But  really how much easier can you get?

The plumber never showed up! Thank goodness one of my handy friends found the issue and it took him like 3 minutes to fix it.

Off to send out my monthly tea cards. If you would like one, send me an address! Seriously y’all I’m running out of room and just received a huge box. On the first I send a different sample out so email me at piratepatty@hotmail.com!

Pumpkin Spice, I mean. I swear seeing Pumpkin Spice Cheerios was the last straw. This is not a case of more is better.

So here are some of my favorite funnies from my Pinterest Board. I have a drainage issue with my bathroom sink. As in the water just stays there. Yesterday the plumber helper came and said, yeah, that’s clogged with something. He then pulled out an ancient stopper missing the metal top. So now I’m waiting for the plumber to show up and fix it.

This is a major issue for me as I read in the bathtub for hours during the day and he still isn’t here. Now if I were to hop in that tub, the man would be knocking on the door. Can’t go for a run.  Just waiting for him. And the Postman.

Yesterday I received a big box of new teas that I’m still trying to find a place for. Tomorrow I’ll share them all.

For now I guess I’ll call the plumber again.

Really, Can You Ever Have To Much Tea?

Hi Thursday! You are looking mighty wet and gloomy this morning. Good thing I had a big Earl Grey London Fog to warm me up.

I told you yesterday that I had been on a tea ordering binge. This is how it started. I was straightening up my Tea Cupboard and saw an empty spot up there by the Cranberry tin. So I ordered some more tins of the holiday blends.

This is my addiction. I love these tins. I use them for everything including small posies for tea parties. Do I have a problem? Probably. What you can’t see is I have backups of almost all of them behind the ones you see. There was also another motive. Depending on how many teas I order I get a box perfect for re-shipping. I needed 5 boxes that hold two tins. Yes, I ordered tea to get a box. It is the perfect size for a tea-cup, some tea, a truffle and a bath bomb. Christmas is done.

Converting the world to tea one gift at a time. Also it is a really great gift I would love to get. Plus I’m going on a cruise in April and I need my money for that. Very shallow I know, which makes me deep since I do know it.

This is what I will be doing today. Plus making Pumpkin Bread from Diane’s Kitchen. She has the best looking food. And there aren’t a million ingredients you can’t pronounce. Plus she has the cleanest baking pans I’ve ever seen! So pop over and begin to drool!

Candy Cane Lane Tea and a Cat!

You ever notice that Monday is about as reliable as you can get? I’m sipping this new tea this morning and it is so smooth and nice all by itself.

I also just read in my reader “10 ways to motivate yourself in the morning”. Honey, if you have kids you don’t need any motivation. They will drag you kicking and screaming like they haven’t been fed in years. Just the thought that they will go get their own food scares me right out of bed.

It is cold. 36 degrees this morning. I am so not ready for this. I had all kinds of plans but then I went outside and decided Nah…

This Candy Cane Lane tea from Celestial Seasonings is decaf and green tea and peppermint and vanilla and magic. It smells like a warm hug and tastes smooth and just the right amount of each ingredient. Peppermint and Vanilla is a good combo. I’m using this as the liquid in something. I don’t know what but something!

The kids carved the big pumpkins this weekend and toasted seeds. Aunt Gayle comes back later today so I went over last night and cleaned house and put fresh linens on the bed and actually groomed a cat! Seriously, this cat loves me and I kind of like her.

I have nothing planned for today except reading 2 books. Both Christmas. The kids are practicing their multiplication tables finishing up reading for Fall Break. Just in time to go back to school and get out again for Thanksgiving Break.

Have a peaceful Monday and stay warm!

YOU, ME, AND A CUP OF TEA…and Some Gingerbread!

The calendar may say summer is over, but the weather did not get that memo. High 90’s all week. I’m not complaining. I don’t turn on the a/c until it’s 100. So why in the world was I making Gingerbread yesterday?

Well I had this Bengal Spice Tea from Celestial Seasonings for afternoon tea yesterday and I thought, this blend would be really good in a gingerbread. I had the stone ground whole wheat and some molasses so I substituted a strong version of the tea for the liquid. No added sugar or bad stuff. I made just a small pan and they came out amazing! So much more flavorful.

On to weirder things. Does anyone else get totally creeped out by JC on Big Brother. We watched the Live after dark last night and he was touching Tyler while Tyler was asleep and then he kissed his armpit. Seriously this dude has been sketchy like this the entire show and I don’t know why CBS hasn’t take action by now. I’m not surprised but I am disappointed.

I finished Rising Out Of Hatred by Eli Saslow last night and it was highly disturbing. It is interviews the author had with the heir to the KKK throne, Derek Black, godson of David Duke, who has now turned his back on the groups and even changed his name legally and moved. It was interesting to see him transformed from what he had been brainwashed with his entire life and how he searched for his own truth and what he found that profoundly changed his beliefs.

And in other unrelated news, I found that tossing an orange into the blender with my mixed greens makes one of them less bitter. ( I’m talking about Dandelion greens, but don’t want to hurt their feelings). I made the most amazing Superfood Smoothie yesterday with organic baby spinach, kale, chard, dandelion greens and mizuna, which is also called spider mustard or Japanese mustard greens. A cup of coconut water, a handful of frozen no sugar added peaches, strawberries and pineapple and I felt very healthy for a few hours. At least until the gingerbread came out of the oven.

Off to water Yoga. That’s what I call my attempts to climb on my float everyday!

What’s up with your day??

xx Patricia
