TIME TO STOCK UP FOR THE WINTER STORM…OR NOT

Afternoon Y’all. I hope you are all safe and warm. The weather man says we have a really big winter storm headed our way this weekend. I’m always doubtful of that as Mother Nature and I have worked out a deal concerning cold wet stuff and I’m confident she will honor that.

In the continuing saga of the pumpkins….they are all gone! Day before yesterday the two big ones disappeared and that left one small one on one transformer and 2 small ones on the other. And all day I have watched over them to the point Tommy told me he wouldn’t be surprised if he came home and I had knit them some sweaters. And just when I thought oh crap, I’m just going to go get them and bring them inside,  just like that they were gone. In like less than a minute! I swear I ran to the bathroom came back and POOF gone. I feel awful now. Thank goodness they weren’t babies or puppies. I have a feeling my neighbor is doing this to me. He knows I love a good mystery.

I spent the entire day yesterday watching the Bush funeral. I don’t care what anyone’s opinion is about the man. If you weren’t old enough to vote at that time than hush. But we knew this man. One of my friends from high school was in his security detail and was there yesterday. The younger Bush we met when we lived in Dallas. We would go to the Rangers games and there would be George and Laura and the girls with their picnic basket sitting right across the aisle. It was fun and they were all lovely and fun to be with.. I don’t care what your politics are, they were a close and loving family so I sobbed all day.

We have a new coffee shop down the road and everyday they post the most delicious cupcakes and slices of rich, decadent cakes and I am seriously struggling to stay away from there. So we will look at some pretty pictures and pretend we ate them.

Stay safe. Stay warm. Be Kind. Eat the damn cupcake!

Decorating Pumpkins and Gourds With Your Children….and Cupcakes!

halloweencollage

Welcome to Fallinter. They say it is Fall but it feels like Winter! This morning I started my day with Tazo Earl Grey and then I saw the cupcakes. In my head I threw the idea out that they are just basically muffins. I’m sure you can see my mouth won the battle of cupcakes for breakfast!

Yesterday was Arts and Crafts day at Chez Cowan. We had so many small pumpkins and gourds and since I had burned my finger on the hot glue gun, we decided to go the regular Elmer’s Glue route.

I save old shower liners to use as a drop cloth for painting and crafts so that went on the table along with these adorable black paper plates with dancing skeletons on them, each full of a different thing. One for glue, one for glitter ( orange and gold) and one for Halloween sprinkles, and one with Epsom Salts. We divided up the ones we wanted and went to work making a mess. I had the two white ones. I painted glue all over it and covered it with gold glitter and on top a glittered acorn. On and on we went. The Epsom Salt looks just like ice crystals and they were so creative. Then we made cuppy cakes and took them to our neighbors. They were worn out when they went home.

I hope your Friday is peaceful and full of sunshine. It is foggy and raining and cold here. Perfect day to try some new teas and read a cozy mystery!

Seriously, I am not a hoarder…she said

Morning Y’all! I think the wind may have subsided for a bit. At least there aren’t lawn chairs flying through the air. Yesterday was so bad I couldn’t even open the car door!

Today I’m sitting in the office, avoiding work, chatting with my sister and sipping on my morning Irish Breakfast Cuppa. It’s also tea ordering day. If you looked at the tea cupboard you’d never know those suckers are stacked 3 to a row! Backups of everything.

It’s also time to get rid of the odd chipped teapot or cup or saucer and I’m looking at all of these different ways to  re-purpose them. I’ve done the candle making thing and I’m kind of over that. A few are being saved for fairy houses and I’m loving the bird feeder idea.

It doesn’t help when you have a great partner in crime to point out all of the cute cups and saucers and pots that you really need. I am a tea hoarder addict. It’s not like I keep the empties.

On another note I have started wearing a rubber band on my wrist. Now instead of things just falling right out of my mouth I snap my band and look away. I am really trying not to give unsolicited advice. I’m finally at a point in my life where everything is on point. I trying to be grateful and to do that I need to stop being judgy. Oh, yes I am judgy! I judge you on your football team. I judge you on your meat-eating ways. I judge you on your choice of pajama pants at Wal-Mart. So if you would all just jump on the Plant Based Diet, the Florida State Seminoles, and put on some damn pants, I think I can do this!

xx Patricia     Be Nice,Drink Tea and don’t be judgy.

HELLO MARCH! GOODBYE COLD!

March has crept in quietly and warmly. The sun is steaming through the window and today’s tea is brought to us by good Tazo Awake English Breakfast Tea. After the drinking dirt debacle the Tea Fairy wasn’t having any trial or error this morning.

This has been an emotional week for me personally. A lot of things are changing here. For instance my new vision insurance starts today! Yeah. As of yesterday I am officially retired from work. Which just means I don’t have to work anymore but I’ve already accepted some freelance work and will continue to work toward my sommelier  credentials.

So, a new month, a new season and change. It seems the appropriate time to begin something new. With someone new. I look forward to collaborating on a project with someone I respect and love very much.

It’s not hard to believe your life can change in a second for the worse, but it’s also hard to believe when it changes for the amazing in one day! You work and work and one day out of the blue it all comes together. Everything clicks and it seems as if you have an angel on your side.

Welcome to March!

Today I Choose A Nice Cup of Oolong

Good Morning Y’all! The children are back in school! 3 weeks is just too long. We have been through several reams of paper, sticker books, markers and 100 paper plates and two rolls of tape. Snowmen and Gingerbread men are hanging all over the place. But we made it! And learned quite a bit!

I am always on the look out for unusual tea pots or tea rooms and I love these! My friend Vicki who lives in Bromley owns Lady Bug Pest Control so the ladybug teapot is perfect for her. I am the cupcake queen, so I would love that one. I already own the three lovely ladies along with creamers for each. Left to me by an ex-husband’s Grandmother who liked me. And of course the Flamingo cup and saucer is on my list.

At the end of the Winter Break PaPa was surprised to hear the kids asking what time it was. When he would say 3 p.m. they would run to the tea-table and sit and wait for tea. Each day we tried a different tea and their opinions were quite funny.

We had many deep and important conversations about hot dogs, how chicken nuggets are made, and why you can’t just opt out of school. Just so you know Corbin popped up with a question. Did we know what hot dogs were made of? Not a clue I say, I don’t eat those. Well that’s good, he says because they are made of cancer. Now you know. Proceed at your own risk. We watched the video on how they make chicken nuggets and they will never eat those again.

All in all we survived. The last week was hardest because it was bitterly cold, but today the sun came out and we were above freezing. We danced with our new Bluetooth microphones to Taylor Swift and the Biebs, along with AC/DC, Halestorm and Queen, as well as their Daddy who has quite a few videos on Youtube.

We are getting ready to swing into Mardi Gras mode, Mardi Gras is on Feb. 13th this year, early but we are ready!

How was your week? Did you get snow? My hometown of Brunswick,Georgia did! And lord did it cause problems. The police sent out a notice for people to stay home!! LMAO

Thankful, Grateful and Blessed!

Good Sunday Morning to you all! It is chilly out this morning. I know this because I stuck my hand outside. I’m warming up with the Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea today. Along with the smell coming from our diffuser ( a combo of Clove,Cassia,Orange Essential Oils) and the smell of the tea,it’s rather cozy in here.

At the unholy hour of 5 a.m. I woke up thinking I heard a baby. So I got up to investigate and decided instead of walking back to my side of the bed, I would just hop on and roll over. I rolled right off the bed, smacking my ear and shoulder on the night stand, which weighs a lot! A two person job to move that sucker. So I was awake. Which is not a good thing today.

With tomorrow being surgery day the Anxiety Fairy has moved in. Not just hanging about, but I mean brought a U-Haul and moved right on in. The other fairies don’t like her, but right now she’s calling the shots. I figure the only way to silence her is to bring out the Cleaning Fairy and some Halestorm.

I just heard the church bells ringing for early services and realized I’ve never been up this time of day on a Sunday. They are really quite calming.

Have a really great Sunday!

We Can Dream Together and Have a Cup of Tea….and Cupcakes!

It’s Monday. Again. I am in desperate need of some sunshine so I made my own. I’m enjoying my cup of Paris Tea this morning.

It’s that time of year when Holiday party invitations along with Save The Date cards are pouring in. My go to Hostess gift is usually wine. It’s lazy, I know. So I’m determined to be better this year. In my mission to turn everyone I meet into a tea lover, I decided to order the Harney & Sons  gift boxes. They are lovely little black boxes filled with 20 individual sachets of several of their teas. At $7.95, plus a code it was an excellent buy. Plus they always have free shipping and are very prompt on delivery.

For closer friends and family I’m doing all things tea as well, but with a Fleur de Lis tea strainer, a small pot of honey, a tea-spoon with tea stamped on it that I purchased at Beau-Coup and six different packets of teas, and a lovely cup. And Walker Shortbread comes in a small packet with two shortbreads in it so that will go in as well. Some fancy ribbon skills and we are done.

All I needed was something to put on the tea shaped cards and I found this:

I really miss your presence
I like to hear your views
I wish that we could visit
And catch up on the news.

Since we can’t do that often
The one thing that I can see is
We can dream together
And have a cup of tea.

Cute!   Most places that you order tea from also offer samples. Individual sachets of any tea. Some are free, some are a couple of dollars, but you get to try it before you buy a larger quantity. Now, if you order from Harney, they always toss a few samples in your box.

Since for some reason I can never toss containers I have ended up with multiple glass containers used for centerpieces for weddings. They are perfect to stuff full of good tea stuff, but so is a nice fat cup from the Dollar Tree!

xx Patricia   Have a peaceful Monday.

The Cozy CookBook: Recipes and Stories from your favorite Cozy Authors!

The Cozy Cookbook

I am in love with this book! The best of cozy mysteries, in my own humble opinion are the ones that not only describe the yummy food but also give you the recipes in the end!

Well now all of our favorite cozy authors are here in one big fat book of not only recipes, but excerpts from their book as well. In the back are listed all of the authors, the series they write as well as their Bios.

My all time fave is the Wild Rice and Pumpkin Pilaf from Town in a Pumpkin Bash by B.B.Haywood.

Some of the authors you will meet: Laura Childs, Avery Aames/Daryl Wood Gerber, Ellery Adams, Connie Archer, Leslie Budewitz, Celo Coyle, Victoria Hamilton, B.B. Haywood, Julie Hyzy, Jenn McKinlay and Paige Shelton.

If you would like to check it out first, I did a search and most libraries have it in stock. If not just ask your librarian to order it. Most will.

Not only have I found some excellent new recipes, but I’ve also found some new authors! It’s a win-win!

Hope you are having a peaceful Wednesday. It’s gray and rainy here today so a perfect day for reading!

Mug It! Easy & Delicious Meals For One by Pam McElroy

Mug It!: Easy & Delicious Meals for One

Dinner for one can be a lonely, tasteless prospect. But when dinner (or lunch, breakfast, or a snack, for that matter) is made in a mug, it suddenly becomes a whole lot more fun. From blueberry muffins and quiches to mac ‘n cheese and chocolate peanut butter cake, Mug It contains simple, delicious, recipes for every taste and craving. Easy-to-follow recipes and four-color photographs make Mug It the perfect cookbook for nearly anyone who has a mug, a microwave, and an appetite.

Now that I have given in to years of begging and purchased a microwave I thought I should learn to make something in it and not just heat up coffee. So when I saw this book I was very excited. Most of my meals are eaten out of a bowl or a mason jar, so why not a mug. Heaven knows I have enough of them. And I am just odd enough to embrace this so I don’t burn up any more pots or pans.

There really is something for everyone in here! From Mason Jar Salads, which are my favorite thing this year to overnight oats, dips, breads and muffins in a mug, eggs in a mug, even meatloaf and mac and cheese! Cookies, cupcakes, yummy desserts and even pickling!

So we tried the cake thing and besides the dip and pickling everything else turned out just great! The one thing I especially like is portion control. I mean, it’s a mug. Normally when you make a cake you are probably going to eat more than you should. Same with other foods, but with this when you get to the bottom of the mug, you are done! No mess to clean up, no leftovers to put in the fridge and pretend you will eat later but never do and the entire thing ends up in the trash bin. At least here it does.

So all in all I’d have to say this book is brilliant! Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go have some Earl Grey Tea and a Quiche in a Mug!

Really Game of Thrones? Really?

bluemood

Yes, today is one of those face down in the breakfast kind of days. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the damn solar eclipse. One of the dragons died last night and sorry if that’s a spoiler for you. But I slept like crap and woke up feeling unbelievably sad.

What’s going to happen now? The ending was a little Whaaaat???? How can I even process this? How can you guys do this to us so close to the end of the season?

So we are in mourning in our house. And since I am incredibly grateful that my corneal graft is hanging in there still, I’m not sticking a box on my head and going outside to watch the eclipse. I think we did that when we were little, but I am not sure why.

If you have a dimmer switch in your house everyday can be an eclipse! And I don’t appreciate the fact that I can’t go outside until this is over. I really need to run off this horrible grief I’m feeling over the dragon.

Instead I am stuck in the house waiting for someone to hack the next GoT! Come on guys, I need to know!   My grief has eclipsed the eclipse.

I may be a bit buzzy from all of the Breakfast Tea I’ve had this morning so I’m probably going to just go read a book and try to put this all in perspective.

Hope your Monday is going well. For me this is Friday so that means I’ll have the husband here for two straight days. Although I’m sure he’s working on a plan to be somewhere else so he won’t have to listen to me rant and rave about said dragon.
