Meet the newest love of my life…

cute menu idea. keep choices to a minimum so customers are not overwhelmed with flavors::

Only one of the reasons the UK is looking better every day. We all know the other “orange” reason. When it comes to sweets and goodies, our friends across the pond have us beat to hell and back! I mean Mary I need to say more? And don’t worry Paris, we see you and your Macarons and Tartes. My mouth is in love with European cooking.

If we had a drive-in cupcake place here, I would be in some type of 12 step program by now. But it is a really good idea. Something to think about….hmmm  Cowgirl Cupcakes? What do you think? There is a perfect building just down the road that used to be a Starbucks….just thinking out loud ( thanks Ed Sheerhan).

Tea News!  As much as I love my green Matcha, I have found the blue Matcha. And being the fickle tea lover I am, it is now my obsession!

Blue Matcha Shop -Worldwide Shipping, All Organic Tea:   Is this not gorgeous? And oh my the things you can bake with it!  Like these coconut balls. Drool worthy!

Coconut balls with blue matcha - Blue Matcha:

I still love you green Matcha, but let’s be honest with each other, you look like mold. I said it. Sorry/Not Sorry.  Today I am trying a recipe from my Sea Island Cookbook. It’s a favorite, Lemon Basil Tea Cookies.  And trying out a Black Eyed Pea Crostini recipe for a tea party.

Happy Monday to y’all!

Fairy House Cooking by Liza Gardner Walsh

Product Details

The fairies (and kids) are invading the kitchen. Following up on the popular Fairy House and Fairy Garden handbooks, Liza Gardner Walsh presents a new dimension in fairy-themed activities—Cooking!

In this delightful book, there are lots of delicious recipes, such as pretty fairy muffins, tiny confetti cookies, candied violets, and many more. There are also recipes for tiny snacks meant for fairies, and fun recipes for treats to leave out for the animal friends of fairies.
Complementing the recipes will be fun sidebars of fairy lore and guides for hosting fairy-themed teas and birthday parties.
Simple steps and easy-to-follow recipes help kids and parents make yummy food for parties, friends, or just for fun!

Fairy House and Fairy Garden are two of my favorite books. In a house full of fairy lovers, we never miss an opportunity to use our imagination and play like the fairies!

In the newest book, with help, the kids can try their hands at Toadstool Cupcakes, Toadstool Meringues and Marzipan Mushrooms,Pixie Dust Popcorn or Pretzel Fairy Wands and much more.

The photos in the book are a hit. Not staged, just kids having fun and making a mess while pretending they are fairies and having a bit of a party.

The books are aimed at stretching the imagination in the out-of-doors and now we have some tasty and quite easy treats to take with us on our adventures!

I am in favor of all things imaginary and I thought this was one of the most charming books I’ve seen on the topic.

Expected Release Date is May of 2017.

Buttercream Dreams by Jeff Martin

Image result for Buttercream Dreams: Small Cakes, Big Scoops, and Sweet Treats

This little gem of a book from Jeff Martin who is the  creator of the hugely successful Smallcakes. Jeff has appeared on Cupcake Wars and if you remember the one where the baker forgot to put in the pumpkin in his pumpkin cupcakes, yes, that would be him!

Jeff tells us his story of stating his business and how his business came about and gives us some delicious recipes!

That Pumpkin Cupcake with Cardamom Buttercream is included in the book and it is a party in your mouth!  The French Toast and Bacon Cupcake is another of my favorites.

You will find recipes for cupcakes, small cakes, big scoops and lots of other sweet treats.  The recipes are very easy to understand and make.

These are my 3 favorites. And this is one of my  favorite books for delicious and home made cakes!  With a cup of tea in the afternoon, any of these is a treat!

Give it a look and see what you think! Since wedding season is almost upon us, this would be a great shower gift!

The Sprinkles Baking Book By Candace Nelson ( Yes,There will be Cupcakes!)

The instant New York Times bestseller!
Cupcake favorites and dessert classics from the pastry chef and creator of Sprinkles Cupcakes and judge on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.
When Candace Nelson started Sprinkles, America’s first cupcakes-only bakery, in 2005, people thought she was crazy. “What else do you sell?” they’d ask. But Sprinkles sold out on opening day . . . and hasn’t slowed down since!
Now, in her first cookbook, Candace opens up her recipe vault to bring you 100 irresistible desserts she can’t live without. You’ll learn all the secrets for making 50 beloved Sprinkles Cupcakes, from iconic red velvet to new flavors created exclusively for the book, like crème brûlée.
But Candace doesn’t stop there. She shares the recipes for her all-time favorite cakes, pies, quick breads, cookies, bars, and other treats, plus delicious guest recipes from Sprinkles friends like Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, and Michael Strahan. THE SPRINKLES BAKING BOOK is filled with all-American classics that will appeal to everyone in your family and on your dinner party guest list. So, don’t hold back. Treat yourself to this sweet cookbook and share in the fun!
Sprinkles is one of my all time favorite cupcake bakeries! And Candace Nelson is perfect. Really she is a cupcake genius!  If the only thing in this entire book, which has like 100 of her secret recipes, was the Red Velvet Cupcakes, I would still want this book. So grab your Earl Grey and have some virtual yumminess!

I love Sprinkles cupcakes more than any other. And the fact that Candace brought us the ATM version of cupcakes is nothing short of brilliant! I know at least one of our fellow bloggers caught the Sprinkles fever when visiting from across the pond!

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!  Red Velvet is my favorite, but don’t tell the others….you know how they can be…

One of my favorite duos in the cupcake world! This book has sweet celebrations for every occasion and it’s not just cupcakes! If you are a fellow lover of all things Pink…this is your book babe! I took the picture below at a store and left it in laying around for few days, I mean you never know what that Valentine Fairy has in store and I don’t want another toolbox.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for cupcakes! Pretty pink champagne ones, fluffy white coconut ones, I mean, really is there a bad time for a cupcake? One of my favorites in the book is the gender reveal cupcake!  So cute!

An update on the flu bug. Entire schools have closed today due to this nasty little bug. One school alone had over 300 students and staff call in with this. And the hospitals are full of sick people. So I am going to be grateful that I am not a worst case scenerio and virtuallly share a cup of tea ( it’s Earl Grey) and a yummy cupcake with all of you!

Christmas In Dixie

southernchristmas    I promised that this week I would try and honor my Southern roots and my favorite Christmas foods. While the luscious treats you saw on the Norwegian side were foods we only had at Christmas, in the South, certain desserts show up at Christmas, Funerals, and other holidays.

To be perfectly honest with you all, growing up we were not allowed in the kitchen. Our cook,  Grace, would have let us help all we wanted, but my Mother told us we could wait until we got our own kitchens to make a mess. So we learned to cook the hard way, or at least heat up stuff.

After years of begging for recipes, she finally broke down and sent them to me. Unfortunately I am only allowed to share a few, because really everyone knows how to make some of them.

First up, The Coconut Cake. Front and Center. I love this so much I made it for my own wedding cake once!

Then of course there are the Pound Cakes. Cream Cheese Pound Cake, Sour Cream Pound Cake and any other combination you can think of. My favorites are Momma’s Nut Pound Cake and her Sour Cream Pound Cake.

Next up….Divinity.

And one of my favorites….again…Martha Washington Balls!

And we can’t forget the Pralines!   These are super easy to make!

And to snack on while we wait for the wine to kick in…Spiced Pecans!

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 pound large pecan halves

  • 1. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, lightly beat egg white. Add pecans; stir until coated. Sprinkle with sugar mixture; mix well.
  • 2. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 300° for 20 minutes. Remove nuts from baking sheet to cool on waxed paper. Yield: about 6 cups.

So there we have some of my favorite Southern Christmas Desserts!

A Celebration of Autumn!

autumn leaves

Here in the South, and yes Oklahoma is considered part of the South, it is Fall. Now don’t rush to pack up your summer shoes and your shorts, as we still have the a/c running and the weather is in the 80’s.

But for our purposes, it’s Fall. And we are having a Celebration of Autumn themed Tea. I would say tea party, but come on we all know it’s me and some other crazy chicks, looking for any reason to drink. Tea. I meant drink tea. Yeah.

Since our leaves have not actually turned any color other than green,we are going to have to dig into the Autumn/Halloween decoration box and find those garlands of fall leaves I bought before Michael’s up and died.

I’m using two different teas. One of my favorite Lapsang Souchong and the new Celestial Seasonings Pumpkin. Not Pumpkin Spice, just Pumpkin. I’m about over the Pumpkin Spice after seeing it on the Cheerio box.It just doesn’t feel special anymore, you know?

Along with Pumpkin Scones, Espresso Brownies and Amish Sugar Cookies, we’re serving the Lapsang Chicken Salad Finger Sandwiches, along with a Pecan Pear Salad. For dessert we are going with Mini Pumpkin Pies, along with Mexican Chocolate Cupcakes with Cinnamon Buttercream.

Each person brings one of the goodies and the hostess provides the tea and decorations. It’s a fun and relaxing way to get together and catch up and we all know we can make time for a few hours once a month. I spend more time in the bathtub every day than that!

I’m reading a bunch of new cozy mysteries and mixing up some new herbals to go with them. Have a wonderful day and save time for tea!  xxP
