We Can Dream Together and Have a Cup of Tea….and Cupcakes!

It’s Monday. Again. I am in desperate need of some sunshine so I made my own. I’m enjoying my cup of Paris Tea this morning.

It’s that time of year when Holiday party invitations along with Save The Date cards are pouring in. My go to Hostess gift is usually wine. It’s lazy, I know. So I’m determined to be better this year. In my mission to turn everyone I meet into a tea lover, I decided to order the Harney & Sons  gift boxes. They are lovely little black boxes filled with 20 individual sachets of several of their teas. At $7.95, plus a code it was an excellent buy. Plus they always have free shipping and are very prompt on delivery.

For closer friends and family I’m doing all things tea as well, but with a Fleur de Lis tea strainer, a small pot of honey, a tea-spoon with tea stamped on it that I purchased at Beau-Coup and six different packets of teas, and a lovely cup. And Walker Shortbread comes in a small packet with two shortbreads in it so that will go in as well. Some fancy ribbon skills and we are done.

All I needed was something to put on the tea shaped cards and I found this:

I really miss your presence
I like to hear your views
I wish that we could visit
And catch up on the news.

Since we can’t do that often
The one thing that I can see is
We can dream together
And have a cup of tea.

Cute!   Most places that you order tea from also offer samples. Individual sachets of any tea. Some are free, some are a couple of dollars, but you get to try it before you buy a larger quantity. Now, if you order from Harney, they always toss a few samples in your box.

Since for some reason I can never toss containers I have ended up with multiple glass containers used for centerpieces for weddings. They are perfect to stuff full of good tea stuff, but so is a nice fat cup from the Dollar Tree!

xx Patricia   Have a peaceful Monday.

The Cozy CookBook: Recipes and Stories from your favorite Cozy Authors!

The Cozy Cookbook

I am in love with this book! The best of cozy mysteries, in my own humble opinion are the ones that not only describe the yummy food but also give you the recipes in the end!

Well now all of our favorite cozy authors are here in one big fat book of not only recipes, but excerpts from their book as well. In the back are listed all of the authors, the series they write as well as their Bios.

My all time fave is the Wild Rice and Pumpkin Pilaf from Town in a Pumpkin Bash by B.B.Haywood.

Some of the authors you will meet: Laura Childs, Avery Aames/Daryl Wood Gerber, Ellery Adams, Connie Archer, Leslie Budewitz, Celo Coyle, Victoria Hamilton, B.B. Haywood, Julie Hyzy, Jenn McKinlay and Paige Shelton.

If you would like to check it out first, I did a search and most libraries have it in stock. If not just ask your librarian to order it. Most will.

Not only have I found some excellent new recipes, but I’ve also found some new authors! It’s a win-win!

Hope you are having a peaceful Wednesday. It’s gray and rainy here today so a perfect day for reading!

Mug It! Easy & Delicious Meals For One by Pam McElroy

Mug It!: Easy & Delicious Meals for One

Dinner for one can be a lonely, tasteless prospect. But when dinner (or lunch, breakfast, or a snack, for that matter) is made in a mug, it suddenly becomes a whole lot more fun. From blueberry muffins and quiches to mac ‘n cheese and chocolate peanut butter cake, Mug It contains simple, delicious, recipes for every taste and craving. Easy-to-follow recipes and four-color photographs make Mug It the perfect cookbook for nearly anyone who has a mug, a microwave, and an appetite.

Now that I have given in to years of begging and purchased a microwave I thought I should learn to make something in it and not just heat up coffee. So when I saw this book I was very excited. Most of my meals are eaten out of a bowl or a mason jar, so why not a mug. Heaven knows I have enough of them. And I am just odd enough to embrace this so I don’t burn up any more pots or pans.

There really is something for everyone in here! From Mason Jar Salads, which are my favorite thing this year to overnight oats, dips, breads and muffins in a mug, eggs in a mug, even meatloaf and mac and cheese! Cookies, cupcakes, yummy desserts and even pickling!

So we tried the cake thing and besides the dip and pickling everything else turned out just great! The one thing I especially like is portion control. I mean, it’s a mug. Normally when you make a cake you are probably going to eat more than you should. Same with other foods, but with this when you get to the bottom of the mug, you are done! No mess to clean up, no leftovers to put in the fridge and pretend you will eat later but never do and the entire thing ends up in the trash bin. At least here it does.

So all in all I’d have to say this book is brilliant! Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go have some Earl Grey Tea and a Quiche in a Mug!

Really Game of Thrones? Really?

bluemood

Yes, today is one of those face down in the breakfast kind of days. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the damn solar eclipse. One of the dragons died last night and sorry if that’s a spoiler for you. But I slept like crap and woke up feeling unbelievably sad.

What’s going to happen now? The ending was a little Whaaaat???? How can I even process this? How can you guys do this to us so close to the end of the season?

So we are in mourning in our house. And since I am incredibly grateful that my corneal graft is hanging in there still, I’m not sticking a box on my head and going outside to watch the eclipse. I think we did that when we were little, but I am not sure why.

If you have a dimmer switch in your house everyday can be an eclipse! And I don’t appreciate the fact that I can’t go outside until this is over. I really need to run off this horrible grief I’m feeling over the dragon.

Instead I am stuck in the house waiting for someone to hack the next GoT! Come on guys, I need to know!   My grief has eclipsed the eclipse.

I may be a bit buzzy from all of the Breakfast Tea I’ve had this morning so I’m probably going to just go read a book and try to put this all in perspective.

Hope your Monday is going well. For me this is Friday so that means I’ll have the husband here for two straight days. Although I’m sure he’s working on a plan to be somewhere else so he won’t have to listen to me rant and rave about said dragon.

Dark Chocolate Demise: A Cupcake Bakery Mystery by Jenn McKinlay

Dark Chocolate Demise (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #7)

The New York Times bestselling Cupcake Bakery Mysteries bake up sweet surprises, but as the series continues, Mel and Angie are in for a fresh batch of trouble…

Scottsdale, Arizona, may not be the liveliest place on earth, but it’s never been as dead as this. Hundreds of fans have gathered together for the first annual Old Town Zombie Walk, and Mel, Angie, and the Fairy Tale Cupcake crew are donning their best undead attire to sell some horror-themed desserts to the hungry hordes.

But the fun turns to fright when Mel finds a real dead body in a prop casket outside of the bakery’s truck—and the corpse looks alarmingly like a zombie of their own. Knowing that Joe, Angie’s brother and Mel’s former flame, has been working on a dangerous mob case, Mel worries that the murder is a hit gone wrong and that someone near and dear was the real target. To keep any of her friends from winding up six feet under, Mel will do whatever it takes to find a killer—no matter how scary things get…

First this book contains more scrumptious recipes in the back. That alone makes it a good read for me!

Full of Zombies, Mobsters and even Rock Stars, this one had all the ingredients to make a good read!

I don’t think there is a character in this series that I don’t like. Except Olivia… They are all so relatable and funny. Especially all the DeLaura boys!

With Joe working a Mob case that puts his family in danger, Mel is going solo while Tate and Angie are blissfully in love. Even dressing as bride and groom zombies for the Zombie Walk. But when a dead bride ends up in the coffin, life gets real very fast!

And Of course we know that neither Angie or Mel are going to sit around and wait to find out who shot the bride and who wants Angie dead.

I think I gain 5 pounds just reading this series, but I love it!

TO KILL A HUMMINGBIRD BY J.R.RIPLEY (A Bird Lover’s Mystery)

Released on July 11th.

Continuing on with the Bird Lover’s Mystery Series, we find our Amy all a twitter over her old professor coming to town. He has a new book about hummingbirds out and is coming to Ruby Lake for a book signing.

From the moment he pulls up in his tiny bird house home on wheels, something is off. And when Amy finds him after the book signing dead and the bookshop owner calmly admitting she did it, something isn’t sitting right with Amy.

Of course our girl can’t sit back and wait to find out what is going on and soon she’s flitting all over town, looking for answers. And there is no lack of shady characters for her to focus on.

I’ve never been a bird person, until this series!  I love a story that entertains and teaches me something new. I never knew there where so many types of hummingbirds! And they are adorable. The characters in this series are quickly becoming like family and I think that’s a pretty good sign of a well written series!

Well done, once again Mr. Ripley!

This deserves some lovely tea and a sweet!

Checking Out The Cosy Mysteries! With a snack…

Grab a cuppa and get ready to meet some talented cosy mystery authors and their books!

Today  we are looking at the different types of cosy mysteries and what draws a reader to a certain author, their characters or the subject matter. Most cosy mystery writers have more than one series going at once. How they do that I don’t know, but they do.

Today’s spotlight author is Jenn McKinlay. She has three different series going! And all of them I love. The books above are from her Library Lover’s Mysteries.

The ones above are from her Cupcake Bakery Mysteries. Including recipes! I’m reading the latest one Carmel Crush now. So if you are into cupcakes, this may be for you!

And here we have the Hat Shop Mysteries. How one author can come up with three of my favorite things is a mystery to me, but I’m so happy to have found her!

Here’s some stuff about Jenn:

Jenn is the New York Times, Publisher’s Weekly, and USA Today bestselling author of several mystery series and will be debuting her women’s fiction series on May 30, 2017, starting with the title About a Dog. She lives in sunny Arizona in a house that is overrun with kids, pets and her husband’s guitars.

Vanilla Beaned (A Cupcake Bakery Mystery) by Jenn Mckinlay

Vanilla Beaned (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #8)

In the eighth in the New York Times bestselling series by the author of Dark Chocolate Demise, the Fairy Tale Cupcake crew goes double or nothing in Vegas…

Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura are taking a gamble by opening their first franchise of the Fairy Tale Cupcakes Bakery, so where better to hit the jackpot than in Vegas? Business manager Tate Harper has lined up a meeting with Holly Hartzmark, a former showgirl who’s looking to bring Mel and Angie’s sweet treats to Sin City, but Mel isn’t so sure she’s ready to hand her recipes over to a complete stranger—especially one as brash as Holly.

But after the potential bakery location gets blown up, Mel begins seeing another side to Holly—one that reminds her very much of herself. Determined to help a kindred spirit, Mel sets out to discover who is trying to keep the bakery from cashing in. But with a murderous mischief-maker on the loose, the odds are stacking up against a happy ending for Mel and her friends…

I’ve been looking for more cosy mystery authors and series lately. Mainly because I normally read horrendous serial killer type things and I wanted some lighter reading to balance that out and I do no like romance stories.

Imagine the shock and awe in the shock and awe that happened when I stumbled across this series. A Cupcake Bakery Mystery?? With Recipes?? Different people click with different cosy mysteries. I really dislike the ones where the girl is always schlumping around looking disheveled and not being able to decide between men, or the ones that have the main character doing everything but making coffee/tea/pastry.

This group of colorful characters, Mel, Angie and Tate are great characters. I read all the way up to this one, because I have the one that comes next, and reading it was a joy. The characters are all believable, well-developed and smart. And boy can they bake a cupcake! I spent every chapter whining about wanting a cupcake! So imagine my joy when the recipes were in the back of the book!!!

Jenn McKinlay has found herself a home on my shelf and in my blog!
