SAYING GOODBYE TO AUGUST IS HARD

Well, folks, it’s the last day of August. I believe we have lived it to the fullest. No rain this morning and I am sipping the last of my Harney & Sons Blueberry Green Tea. Waiting patiently on the Publisher’s Clearinghouse guys to get here with my giant check and some flowers.

This has been a crazy week of storms, living more than 24 hours without phones, electricity, and the internet. But we made it through. It took a lot of strong tea, a bit of crying and the Anxiety Fairy bringing her snotty little self over with an overnight bag!

With all of the storm nonsense, I forgot about the man with one leg. So, here is how that went down.  I was happily floating in the pool, trying to chill when I heard a man’s voice. I look up and there is an older gentleman speaking to me. I said hello, welcomed him to our little community and he proceeded to tell me why he moved here. Buckle up.

The Man:  I’m newly single after 50 years of marriage.

Me: Oh, I’m sorry. ( Me thinking the woman is dead)

The Man: Yep, last month was our 50th wedding anniversary and I asked her what she wanted and she said A Divorce. So now I’m looking for a new soulmate to live out my days with.

Me: 50 years? And now she wants out? Wow, that’s a lot of time to put in and not finish it.

The Man: She’s a bitch. After she said that I left. Gave her the house and everything.

Me: That’s rough.

The Man: I used to work in the stock market. Graduated from OU.

Me: That sounds interesting. I wouldn’t lead with the OU thing. I’m SEC.

The Man: That water sure looks good. Maybe I’ll take off my prosthetic leg and sit a bit. I’m blind in my right eye too so are there steps?

Me: Total Silence.  In my head: Holy Shitballs, Batman! Do I have some magnet on my head that says Tell me your story???

The Man: Well, I’d better be on my walk. I would love for you to stop by and have a cocktail or dinner sometime.

Me: (In a small squeaky voice) Okay…..

I told OU Boy as soon as he got home and he just shook his head. Now I’m thinking of setting the guy up with my neighbor who is single and closer to death than me. Or maybe not, I really like her and she brings me macarons from Ganache and homegrown tomatoes. Anyway, guys, you may want to wait for the ink to dry on the divorce papers before stalking a new soulmate.

Have a happy Saturday! It’s Football Time! And be safe if you are in the path of Dorian. Most of my family is on that path, so you know what to do.

MILLIONS OF PEACHES, PEACHES IN TEA…SING ALONG!

The sun is really shining this afternoon. It’s been a wet and wild few days with the weather. Storming overnight and into the morning. Saturday was a wash until late in the day when we all hit the pool and worked up an appetite for pizza. Which explains why I am drinking this tea today. Very soothing to the tummy!

Sometime in the night storm one of our hotels was struck by lightning and every fire alarm in the place went off. For hours! OU Boy just got home from handling that mess and is in bed asleep! I am trying to be quiet.

We introduced the kids to Go Fish last night and it was hilarious! We took advantage of Barnes and Noble’s big sale and grabbed Charli Ava some new books. I snagged a few.

Dark Age for OU Boy who follows this author and series. I grabbed fellow Georgia girl, Karin Slaughter’s new one and Stuart Woods new one which stars my book boyfriend, Stone Barrington. International man of mystery and wealth…sigh.

Corbin gorged himself on Entenmanns coffee cake and tea. And refused to wear pants all weekend. Because he had new underwear and wanted to show it off. His shoes did match though. All in all, it was a good weekend.

It was nice to unplug and not listen to any negativity for a couple of days. It gets to be a bit much on Twitter. Be sure to tune in tomorrow and hear about my invitation to cocktails by a one-eyed, one-legged lothario.

The High Times Cannabis Cup Comes to OKC!

a7409057d42d5a428d2d50ab2cb34ad3

Good Morning Tuesday! You are looking disgustingly bright and hot this morning. With another day over 100 todays, tea is iced! Blood Orange from Harney & Sons. This is one good tea. It comes in 2-quart bags and I usually toss in some orange slices with it.

Yesterday was the kind of hot that just saps every bit of strength right out of you. The humidity was like breathing soup. I stayed inside and did a load of laundry, ironed and then had a lunch of fresh tomatoes and these Armenian cucumbers that my guy at the liquor store grows in huge pots outside the store. He also has spinach, lettuces, and other greens. What a genius idea. Now no one puts out their cigarettes in his pots!

As soon as I sat down the bookman came. Okay, he’s the postman. But he did bring me a gift from Kensington Books. The Vagina Bible.  OU Boy said it looked unseemly next to my tomatoes. I disagreed. It isn’t a taco! This is a last-minute entry in August releases so I’m going to get on this one today and find out everything I never wanted to know about our vaginas. I will let you know if I find out anything earth-shattering.

It was too hot for the pool yesterday so after dinner we went and visited the kids and got caught up on the first week of school. Corbin had got new socks and underoos and was laying them out on the dining room table matching the superheroes. Jodi was making an adorable toad house for the garden. So we got our hugs and kisses and came home and cleaned the pool.

While at the kid’s house, Jodi told us that she actually watched Dead Like Me and there was a movie that tied it all up in 2009! So, of course, we had to watch it on Prime. Nicely done.

The Cannabis Cup comes to OKC this weekend. With Slightly Stoopid and 311. The High Time Cannabis Cup started in the ’80s in Amsterdam. Everyone is welcome, but only those with a medical card can sample the product and get in the smoke tent, where the judging will be held. All of this is great news for our botanist son and for us as we get the kids! Adventure awaits.

Now I’m going to go get on that Vagina Bible!

Notice your own little miracles throughout the day. This morning mine was a ladybug on my shoe!

WEEKEND SHENANIGANS! AND PIE!

earlgreylavender

Another hot and humid Monday with more over 100-degree heat. Today’s cuppa is brought to us by Octavia Teas. It is an Earl Grey Lavender. On this one, I’m going to have to say I didn’t care for it. It was strong and I didn’t detect the lavender. Not worth the caffeine. But I’m sure someone else will love it. What did I love?

nitrocoldbrew

This Nitro Cold Brew with Almond Milk from Starbucks! Smooth as my Uncle Junior. I grabbed it on the way to the Farmer’s Market at OSU. What did I find there?

There was live music, lots of people grabbing those first peaches and tomatoes. We bought some of everything! Including a whole peach pie. We got a ton of pickling cucumbers and okra and did this!

pickiles

Made Dill Pickles and Pickled Okra! Turns out I am that kind of person! These weekends off are turning us into different people. I mean you have to get up early for this stuff! But I was so inspired by the beautiful produce I had to do something.

Afterwards, we hit up the Antique Fair. And what did we see? Lots of things I wanted!

A rare 1800’s Tea Bin. It is large! And the inside smells like tea. Cute little tea set for the grands. A lovely rose tablecloth that went beautifully with the vase of roses the same color from the day before!

My momma and my sister are fluent in shorthand. A skill I never once thought of attaining. It looked a lot like when I was learning Farsi. And the best, a 1939 edition of Gone With The Wind. Enough to make a Georgia girl swoon!

All that shopping and adventuring made us hungry so we made a Watermelon Mint and Feta Salad with some Harney and Sons Blueberry Green Tea!

fetawatermelon

Then we got Wedding Mail! One of the shirts I ordered for the #BrideTribe. Even little Charli got one. The mugs are for our morning coffee on the big day!

And it looks like OU Boy has turned into a butterfly! He’s lost a lot of weight and is sticking to his healthy eating habits. Now he loves shopping.

tommybutterfly

We also finished watching Dead Like Me on Prime. I can’t believe I never saw that! Saw Jim Gaffigan and hung at the pool. I talked to my sister a lot trying to co-ordinate winter vacations in Curacao.

Now it’s Monday and back to work, we go. Back to school, we go. This weekend stuff I could get used to!

Enjoy and what did you do this weekend?

AUGUST, The Sunday of Summer!

Hello August! You came way too soon. Unless you have children in school, then we love you! This has been a week of promised but not delivered rain. We do need rain. The sun has shown up with a vengeance. Over 100 is my type of weather!

This mornings tea is brought to you by Taylor’s of Harrogate. Lemon Ginger. So good and so good for you! For the first time in a long time, I don’t have any books releasing today. I am caught up with reading through November and the pool is now my home.

We have had some really big changes in our lives this summer. OU Boy received a big promotion at work with another one promised by the end of the year that involves traveling! He goes around singing some reggae song about my occupation is a vacation now. We are probably in the best shape we’ve ever been in physically and emotionally. Our #lifegoals are coming together like a good gumbo!

Our kids have been busy transforming the school bus and becoming a part of the #skoolie movement. They work lots of overtime and lots of sweat time to reach their own life goals. Corbin and Charli Ava are growing like weeds!  There is lots of wedding planning and shopping and prep going on. Everyone finally has their outfits.

Corbin’s shirt is adorable. He has his daddy’s scrunchy face look there and with his hair down you can see he did a little trimming of a piece of hair that kept getting in his mouth. By himself. The girls aren’t showing theirs. We want the boys to be surprised!

So planning weddings, meeting goals, smashing goals, drinking a lot of tea and thinking I may retire this year. This weekend will be the first official weekend off for OU Boy and we have great plans to go to bed, the fridge, the pool and back to bed! God, we are exciting! LMAO

Enjoy the day!

Decaf India Spice Chai and a Chilling Tale

This Celestial Seasonings Decaf India Spice Chai is so delicious. I love a good cup of Chai and own several brands. This Decaf one allows me to drink it in the afternoon as well. And oh my this chilling tale You Fit The Pattern by Jane Haseldine.

Since OU Boy has taken over another hotel, I have lots of time on my own. It always takes a lot of work to get things organized and hire new people and this means I can read a lot!

So a tale!  I thought my stalker had finally given up. Nope. Somehow she knows where I live. And left me a little message letting me know. I filed a report and hope that will be enough. This morning I had to call the FBI. I received an email from some toad who said he had gotten my password, which he shared and it was a years old password that I used only on Linkedin. He says he has accessed my computer and unless I pay him $800 he is going to release a video of me “pleasuring myself”. Yep. That is what he said. Obviously, I wasn’t going to reply to him. I called the FBI and gave them the email and his IP address.

What I wanted to do was tell the toad to go ahead, hell, even I would like to see that video! In my logical brain, I knew there was no way he had squat. My computer is in the office and I don’t do that there. Who knows? That is how the Kardashians got famous and I’m sure mine would be better.

So that’s how my day started. Now I am going to sit back and watch the Mueller testimony and watch the trumpster lose what is left of his mind. Speaking of, Hey UK, what the heck were you thinking? Boris? Really? Have you not learned from our mistakes?

Peace xx P

Birthday and Shopping Fun and the Convent

Good Monday Morning! It’s rather dreary looking this morning but the sun is trying to peek out. Miss Charli turned 9 on Saturday and we did our usual to spend the night and go shopping.

First up was her presents and then the mall where we bought a mixed box of macarons and then to Dillards so she could pick new shoes. Papa handled that. I handled the My Body Book. Which turned out to be more than poor OU Boy could handle. He looked at Book 2 and saw a demonstration of how to put on a pad and immediately shut that down by telling her she is moving to a convent.

She bought herself a new swimsuit and a lava lamp of all things. When we went out to the pool, we decided to do the scene from Stranger Things 3 where all the moms are posing at the pool waiting for Billy the lifeguard to walk by. Yes, we are nerds. Then I saw the picture and thought, there is no way I was this confident at 9! Nope. Then OU Boy saw the picture and once again threw the nuns in the mix. The picture of the two of them was just last summer and my goodness has she sprouted up!

She also installed a bunch of apps on my phone and tablet that I now have to get rid of as I don’t play Roblox or whatever that is!

We had fun and so did she!

Becoming a Skoolie!

As promised…the Skoolie Bus Conversion.  First, the kids flew to Maryland and bought the shiny 40 something foot bus and drove it back to Oklahoma. They parked it at their land in the country and started demo!

First up was pulling out all of the seats, grinding and sanding all of the floor. Then insulation and putting that white stuff on them. Now they are taping off areas the will build on. They removed all of the windows and made them airtight and put windows back in. There are lots of trips to Lowe’s.

You could call this part of the tiny house movement. Minimalists who value freedom more than a house and yard. On the bottom are a few ideas of what it will look like. Basically an RV, but customized for 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a cat.

I am in awe of their work ethic. They rarely take a break from the bus. But oh what an adventure they are going to have. And in our family its the adventure that counts! We turn everything into an adventure.

What do you think? Could you live in one? No mortgage, no utility payments, and able to flee should shit go down in the neighborhood. I could. I would park that sucker at the beach and never leave! If you would like to follow along, please catch them on IG @crosscountrycowans!

Berry Mocha Truffle Tea and My Book Boyfriend!

First, the tea, from Octavia Tea Company this  Berry Mocha Truffle is excellent. It’s a loose-leaf tea and the aroma is calming and full of flavor. I love that this company has such lovely packaging and it’s all loose leaf teas and tisanes.

It was the perfect companion to the newest Stone Barrington book from
Stuart Woods. Stone is my book boyfriend. I also would like to be him. He is smart, rich, sophisticated, handsome and very sexy.

Been doing a lot of reading and catching up on some of my favorite summer authors. We have also been in a whirlwind of wedding planning! My baby is getting married. October 5th. So they have been busy. Working on the bus and planning an outdoor Fall wedding plus full-time jobs and 2 kids. I am in awe of them. This weekend Miss Charli Ava turns 9. We will do our annual dinner and shopping and a trip to the Savoy Tea Parlor.

Tomorrow I will show the progress on the bus, following the #Skoolie movement. You can look on Pinterest to see all the different conversions. Theirs is the 42-foot snub nose school bus. My neighbor lady said in her day they would call them hippies. I was not amused. These are college-educated Millenials who want to show their children the entire country and expose them to other cultures and ideas so they can make informed statements and not be ignorant. I am so proud of them! This is the same neighbor who yesterday told me that if I get any darker they’ll be asking for my green card. Asshat.

It’s going to be another 100-degree day so it’s off to the pool!

xx P

COLD BREW TWININGS! SUMMER TEA!

Saturday looks rather like I feel. Meh. Does everyone get the after holiday blues? Yesterday I was surprised to receive this little gem in the mail. It’s herbal so no caffeine or sugar or artificial sweetener. It comes in 5 flavors and each is a tiny silky sachet you just pop in a bottle of water. Within 3 minutes it was dark. And delicious! I was surprised because I had thought it would taste all artificial like those powders you put in your water bottle, but no, it is really good!

I was thinking last night that some of the things that went on were just too weird to believe. Unfortunately, they happened. Why go on vacation to sit and watch television and eat junk food? I wanted to eat local and jump waves and I was not in the mood for drunks or drug addicts. Obviously, this isn’t my family. We are Southern, we don’t air our dirty laundry or bad habits in public. One only came out at night to tweak his way through the refrigerator and ask if Tommy wanted to go dumpster diving behind CVS. One slept until 2 every day. I guess she just expected us to watch her 3 kids. By the third day, I had had enough Not getting to sleep until 3 a.m. and being rudely woken by people coming to our kitchen for coffee. It was at that point that I screamed, “One more sound and I will cut your balls off!”  It worked. I slept and no one was around when I woke up. They were a bit better after that. Not much.

My favorite thing was being with Tommy and his sister and her family, and of course, Aunt Gayle. We had the most fun running that beach in our golf carts. Some guy offered us free pizza but nothing to drink. Jennifer and I thought we could turn this “girls in bikinis on golf carts” thing into a buffet! I’m sure we saw either a baptism or a drowning one day. It was a church van, so maybe the first, but who knows really?

We saw so many turtles and one waved his flipper at me. Tommy said he did not and just like that, the little guy popped up and flipped me again! Totally tubular dude! Did you find Dory?

The big news is we came back with a new Nissan Rogue and 2 job offers. Look out Texas,  there could be trouble!
