TEA AND CAKE AND A LONG WEEKEND

It’s Friday! Right? Yes, I checked. If you really want to wake up try Gingerbread with Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Tea. Whoa! I’m awake and the entire kitchen smells like Red Hots!

I am such a sucker for outdoor carts, stands, buses, whatever it is, if it’s in a truck or cart, I want it. These ladies have really stepped up their game with such gorgeous and creative places of business. They wouldn’t work really well here since the wind is constantly blowing. I swear I don’t need to exfoliate because the wind rips your skin right off!

Odd news of the week: The lady that does water yoga with me came over to me in the pool and whispered, ” Have you heard any rumors about me sleeping with someone?” Me: “Uh, no.”. ” Why would I have heard something like that?” ” Well it’s not true.” “Okay.”

Bizarre, right? I don’t know you well enough to know your private business and it was very awkward. I had questions. Who are you ‘sleeping’ with? A guy? A girl? See now you’ve made it my business. And then another one of her friends swam by and she said, “Oh, I’m not sleeping with her either”. I didn’t know what to say so I just said, “Me neither.”

This is Labor Day Weekend. So for most people Monday is a day off. I’m going to be playing with all of this stuff that Ulta sent me. I have no idea what half of it is for but there is a primer for every portion of your face.

Trouble is I can only do one eye. When I close the other one it’s shady at best. So we shall see how this goes. They even sent me a lovely bag to keep it all in. Compared to my own make up bag, which holds one mascara and 20 lip balms.

So what fun things do you have for the weekend? I’m hoping a certain someone goes into labor on Labor Day. That would be awesome Lacey  Y’all go show this Momma some love! She is almost at the finish line with baby #3.

YOU, ME, AND A CUP OF TEA…and Some Gingerbread!

The calendar may say summer is over, but the weather did not get that memo. High 90’s all week. I’m not complaining. I don’t turn on the a/c until it’s 100. So why in the world was I making Gingerbread yesterday?

Well I had this Bengal Spice Tea from Celestial Seasonings for afternoon tea yesterday and I thought, this blend would be really good in a gingerbread. I had the stone ground whole wheat and some molasses so I substituted a strong version of the tea for the liquid. No added sugar or bad stuff. I made just a small pan and they came out amazing! So much more flavorful.

On to weirder things. Does anyone else get totally creeped out by JC on Big Brother. We watched the Live after dark last night and he was touching Tyler while Tyler was asleep and then he kissed his armpit. Seriously this dude has been sketchy like this the entire show and I don’t know why CBS hasn’t take action by now. I’m not surprised but I am disappointed.

I finished Rising Out Of Hatred by Eli Saslow last night and it was highly disturbing. It is interviews the author had with the heir to the KKK throne, Derek Black, godson of David Duke, who has now turned his back on the groups and even changed his name legally and moved. It was interesting to see him transformed from what he had been brainwashed with his entire life and how he searched for his own truth and what he found that profoundly changed his beliefs.

And in other unrelated news, I found that tossing an orange into the blender with my mixed greens makes one of them less bitter. ( I’m talking about Dandelion greens, but don’t want to hurt their feelings). I made the most amazing Superfood Smoothie yesterday with organic baby spinach, kale, chard, dandelion greens and mizuna, which is also called spider mustard or Japanese mustard greens. A cup of coconut water, a handful of frozen no sugar added peaches, strawberries and pineapple and I felt very healthy for a few hours. At least until the gingerbread came out of the oven.

Off to water Yoga. That’s what I call my attempts to climb on my float everyday!

What’s up with your day??

Blueberry Green Tea and Strippers

Good Morning! It’s a hot and sunny day already with winds sweeping across the plains. I’m quite sure if I held up an umbrella I would soon be in Texas. I’m making summer last as long as possible by drinking my summery Green Blueberry Tea by Harney & Sons.

Today’s funny story. First let me say that I probably pop in to Burlington about every other day. I’ve met some nice people and know all the sales staff. One lady comes around the same time as I do and this is important to the story.

I wanted Chris to meet me there to look at some drapes. They were not exactly what we wanted, so much to OU Boy’s chagrin, we decided we should just go ahead and get the shower caddies since they had them in the same finish as we are using throughout the house. I decided we needed one  as well and I found a lovely pillow for my sofa.

As we are going out my friend in shopping comes in and sees me and says,” Ah…my people! And I brought cookies!” We’re hugging and then she sees Chris and lo and behold they know each other. More hugging and laughing and we went our separate ways. I looked at Chris and asked how he knew her. Chris: ” Oh she used to work at the strip club.”  Gobsmacked. I knew it was coming and I didn’t even want to get in the car with OU Boy ” So, that’s what you do during the day. Shop with strippers.” I’m never living this one down but I don’t care what she does for a living. We just both love pretty, shiny things and she brings cookies.

We made it home in time for the man to watch Big Brother and I think I’ll stay home today.

THE BOY HAS SOME SKILLS!

Tazo Earl Grey and I wish you a good Tuesday! I’m not sure what is going on with the weather here. Conditions are ripe for severe storms. The heat is relentless and last night our entire neighborhood lost power. I’m assuming from all of the air conditioners working full-time. We just sat in the dark and listened to comedy on the phone. Then we just decided to go to bed. Just as I was falling asleep I heard the a/c come on and thank goodness as it was steamy in here!

I tried really hard yesterday to put my mind on caring for myself and hopefully avoiding the Anxiety Fairy for a bit. First I dragged out my calculator and figured what a SuperFoods Smoothie was costing a week and shuddered. So I dug out the juicer and decided to try making my own. I put 1/2 cup of water in and then 2 big handfuls of Spinach and 1/2 tsps. of Coconut Oil to help turn this into a sludge and also it helps me digest the spinach better. Once I had a nice sludgie mixture, I tossed in a handful of frozen chopped up banana and a handful of frozen, unsweetened mango, pineapple, strawberries and peaches. In minutes I had the same smoothie I pay $5 for every day. And it was delicious. So I sat down and figured out some more combinations and I’m trying a Blueberry Banana Cacoa one at lunch with some added Bee Pollen.

I pretty much eat a raw food diet anyway but as you can see from the picture I do heat some things like broccoli. Just 4 minutes in the pan makes it easier for me to digest. And all those fresh farmer’s market veggies are delish!

So OU Boy figured out finally that if he wants meat he better learn how to cook it. And my goodness he has some hidden skills. He googles recipes and turned out this lovely meatloaf that held together and was easily sliced. I was most impressed because when I tried to make meatloaf it came out falling apart and it was suddenly taco night.

Today we are continuing our hunt for the perfect kitchen table. It has been frustrating to say the least.

Have a great day and take a few minutes for a nice cuppa!

HELLO AUGUST! GOODBYE CHILDREN!

Where did the time go? I blinked and it’s August already! Back to school day here in OKC. Apparently  #playhookywednesday is a thing where parents call in sick and rejoice. Or in our case, clean the house!

We did that yesterday. Put clean sheets on the kids beds. Found a headless Barbie, a yellow marker, a new pair of sandals in the box, several wayward Legos and a pair of shorts we looked for all summer. Under the beds. We returned library books and took the air out of the flamingo float and the Paw Patrol floats so we can see the floor now.

It is so quiet here with just myself and Becky the Palm Tree. Corbin names all of our plants so we have quite the collection of names. There’s Shaggy, Scooby, Felicia and Harold plus Becky with the good fronds. I will miss my pool buddies and tea buddies but they were starting to get on their own nerves so this is a good thing.

Time to brew up some iced teas today. I asked OU Boy to bring me a cold drink last night and he comes in the room and says, “Here’s your tea water.” WTF? “What did you say?” “Well you know that water with tea in it in the fridge.” Just when I think he’s a genius he proves me wrong. But we laughed about that for a while.

Today I’m heading out for a run followed by an extended stay in the pool area. With my last book I need to read for August SOLD ON A MONDAY by Kristina McMorris.

It’s a new month, a clean slate, time to start new habits that calm your mind and nurture your body. Deep Thoughts….

PLEASE, BE BRAVE!

I am childless this sunny and not too hot Wednesday! Starting my day with Stash Meyer Lemon. It is so good and uplifting. I also noticed at the market that they have a new packaging style that is nice.

This  week has been a week of feels. My Daddy’s birthday this week has hit me hard because after his last birthday he passed away a week later. It’s been 8 years and I still choke up and feel like an orphan whenever I see his picture or read his last email to me, which was about getting that wheat in on Farmville!

By example he taught us to stand up for everyone’s rights and if we were afraid, well just fake it until you aren’t anymore! It is because of him that we are like fearless little pirates charging in to defend those unable to defend themselves.

He had four unruly daughters that he sent to Woodman Camp every year to learn to shoot guns, bow and arrows, it was basically boot camp. But he knew there would come a day when we would need to defend ourselves so he gave us the lessons we needed to be strong and never back down.

At all of our weddings he asked us if we were sure and if not head out the back door now. He was a good man and I want to make him proud.

So Happy Birthday up there Daddy!

THE CULT OF GEESE and a LONE DUCK

As I am sitting here looking out the window and sipping my morning English Breakfast, something is missing. The sun. It’s rather gloomy out there today and I’m just not having it. Although I could use it after yesterday.

We went to the lake. And so did about 150 geese and one young female duck. At one point I raised my head and I was surrounded by them. OU Boy had some hot dog buns so he led them like the pied piper away from me so I could take off and head for the water. It was hilarious. OU Boy just standing there talking to them and they are just looking at him like he was God. I think they are a cultish group. But no sooner than OU Boy grabbed his float than they all flew into the lake. Now I’m tethered to the Buoy line way out yonder and there is nothing I can do.

It sounded like a bunch of old men down at the deli. All the umph, meh, and various grunts along with my sweet little duck quacking on her own. We hiked around and finally decided to head to the house and the cleanliness of our pool. We did have fun though. This was the first time in years I’ve actually gotten in the lake. I had on goggles and a huge hat to protect my eye. But should have worn more pants to protect my bottom from being goosed! My tummy is pretty red today so bathing was a bit painful.

I am not happy that the stores now have Christmas and Halloween crap out. Seriously people it’s still summer! Let us enjoy while we can.

I am staying out of the political fray, or I’m trying to not blast the orange man every minute of the day. I did sign the petition for recreational marijuana and it looks like that’s going to pass. If I’m going to have to deal with President Putin and his little puppet I’m going to need drugs of some sort.

I hope you are having a good week so far. I’m off to read The Other Woman which is rather twisty!

FLOATING DOWN THE LAZY RIVER

1491953595091

Tuesday morning and we are headed to the lake. There’s a heat wave going on and OU Boy has a new float to try out. Or break. Mostly he breaks them. I don’t know how.

Yesterday the cleaning fairy came through and did a nice job so I don’t have a thing to do today except lounge in some water. We went yesterday and found some appropriate Legos for Charli’s birthday. Along with a real old-fashioned diary with a lock and key and a lovely poofy pen. Along with the books she should be happy.

Here is what the dreamy teal looks like. Along with some new Converse shoes I love and some lovely flowers OU brought me. It was a good day.

NO shopping today, just floating on the lake. I hope you have a great Tuesday and stay cool!

And The South Has Risen Again!

Ten days. Ten days of coughing, spitting, breathing treatments, vast quantities of tea and steroids. I hate to even say this out loud, but I’m like 99% well. I haven’t thrown up or had to have a treatment in 36 hours.

People always told me that prednisone makes you eat and look bloated. My problem was not that. It was the try to eat and then throw it up. The question of the day was always Well, Patricia, what do feel like throwing up today??? But I ate a bit of pasta salad last night and it stayed where it belonged. So with Corbin and I having just a lingering cough I think we will live.

Charli and I floated in the pool yesterday and it was wonderful and quiet and the sun felt amazing. My first instinct when I feel better is to dive head first into my regular routine. But I’m trying to take it easy. Especially since my postman asked me yesterday if I was still on the steroid rage. Normally I am a nice, polite person. Stop laughing. I am. But these steroid things had me telling people where to go and how they should get there! Things have come out of my mouth that normally I just say in my head. But I think I got some good street cred out of it. People are avoiding looking at me. Win!!!

So let’s talk about how I got through the throwing up mess. I found this Bigelow Calm Stomach. Now I love a good peach, but I do not love artificial peach flavor. I’m a Georgia girl. I know my peaches. And this stuff was delicious! There were so many things going on in my mouth and nose but one of them was not throwing up! I will definitely be keeping this in rotation.

We are having a heat wave. That’s funny. This is Oklahoma. It’s a typical summer. But my sister in South Dakota called yesterday all out of breath and depleted because she went out to her garden and picked some squash and it was 93 degrees! Oh Lawd! That’s a cool front here.

Thanks for all the well wishes and kind thoughts. Much appreciated. And as they say at Target…..Oh crap, that bitch is back!

A New Tea and An Old Man

It’s Tuesday! Tons of new books came out today and I’m so excited. This morning I have been experimenting with teas. I have a really lovely Meyer Lemon from Stash that I adore. So I decided to cold brew it and add some fresh strawberries and a bit of honey. It turned out really nice. If I can keep the five-year old out of the strawberries for 5 minutes I’ll make another pitcher for later.

OU Boy had a reality check last night and I almost cried I laughed so hard. I was working out by the pool and he was doing laps when our neighbor ( who we don’t know from Adam) wanted to swim. She is 17 and at the time we didn’t know she has Asperger’s Syndrome. So in she goes and out he goes. She wanted him to get in and play with her. He was not about to. Then the blow came. “You’re almost 40? Wow that’s old. Some 40-year-old guy hit on me and I pushed my shopping cart into his balls.” Needless to say OU Boy took his toys and went inside. I’m still not sure he’s over that. Poor guy.

She is an interesting child though. She asked to use the bathroom and of course I let her and she came out and said, ” I grabbed a mint. More people should put a candy dish on the toilet.” Okay those are just left over bribes from when the boy was being potty trained, but sure, we’ll keep them in there for guests.

We pretty much live at the pool in the summer. The kids are having fun with the underwater camera and we all sleep better at night and find ourselves snacking much less unless it’s fruit.

Busy day of reading and writing today so y’all enjoy yourselves out there!
